A year ago, we had William refinish our floors; he did a great job-- also on painting! Sadly, during the year a dog became in ill an unbeknownst to us had accidents on a rug covering the newly done floors- the moisture seeped into the wood; it needed to be repaired. William did the repair for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, initially the repair didn't look good- I contacted William. He came back and agreed that it didn't come out as he'd hoped (he'd had to replace boards, re-stain and varnish the area). He came back again, re-did the work for no additional fee and it looks GORGEOUS. He showed great integrity and commitment to quality- his disappointment in the original repair was evident on his face. He is not always super quick to get back to you- but I found him to be responsive to polite persistence. He is now my "floor guy"-- we're moving and he'll be the person I call for any flooring related needs.

The floors look generally nice, but the devil is in the details. There were many issues and project management was severely lacking. 1. Some floor boards that needed to be fixed were overlooked, and they ended up fixing them after the initial job was done, making the difference in planks and finish very obvious. 2. They said we did not need to remove the radiators as they could properly sand and finish with them in place, but the area behind the radiators looks half done. 3. They did not properly install the shoe trim behind the radiators. After this was pointed out, they came back and used large silver screws to fix into place, which is never done and looks awful (the saving grace is that our radiators will likely stay for years to come as we like radiator heat). 4. We discovered a large gap between the floor and the wall in one of the bedrooms after the shoe trim was removed. Rather than installing wood to fill the gap, they said that the gap could be covered using a larger shoe trim. Oops! Turns out the larger shoe trim only partially covered the gap when it was placed upside-down. Although they did not end up charging us the additional price for the larger shoe trim, the problem remained, and we had to fix it ourselves. 5. Once they said the project was finished, they also left blue in several places that was extremely difficult to remove. They removed most of it when we pointed that out, but not all. 6. Finally, we are not also convinced that they used the 3 coats of poly that we had agreed upon, although we were not able to prove this due to my husband being at work. They said they did two applications in one day, although this was not what we had agreed on. We have found that the floor scratches and finish comes off quite easily. Based upon our experience, I will not reuse for future refinishings and would not recommend.

I didn't know that parquet is out of style and hard to find. Mr. Zavala was able to order the wood to match the parquet in the hallways, installed it in the dining room and stained it to match perfectly. His work is of high quality and the job was done to perfection.

My bad experience with this company just got worse. The floors in our landing have risen and are floating. This is dangerous, unprofessional, and I can't even imagine any other company thinking that this shoddy work is acceptable. I now need to hire another company to fix this.

William's team did a nice job. They were prompt, stayed on schedule, kept me informed. All good. As you might expect, there were a few small hiccups, most related to moving furniture out of the way to get at the floors. I ended up having to touch up the paint on several walls afterwards to fix scuff marks from furniture moving (not from the sanding, interestingly). They did a really nice job keeping sawdust under control or cleaning it up -- one or the other. That wasn't a problem at all, as I'd expected it might be. Finally, this isn't their fault at all, but a thought for those considering having floors done: Be sure to change the air filter on your HVAC after the job, and consider cleaning your fire/carbon monoxide alarms, because the dust can cause trouble.

Mr. Zavala arrived on time and assessed my rooms. I wanted an estimate the same day for interior painting and minor flooring issues. Mr. Zavala promised to get back to me the same day in the afternoon. I wrote my name, phone number and email address on his blank estimate form. Later, I have received a text confirmation from him that an estimate will be emailed by noon. Unfortunately, around 6pm I still did not have an estimate. I have texted Mr. Zavala twice asking for a reply but received no response. I cannot recommend this service and don't think I can proceed with this company even if an estimate arrives eventually.

They were very thorough, took their time, and did and excellent job! It turned out great and looked great when they were finished! I was very happy with the excellent work they did. I will definitely hire them again the next time I need painting done.

"The house looks better now than it did brand new! --what our realtor said when he saw the house. It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Zavala. He was flexible with our schedule as we had a delay, and worked very hard to finish as quickly as possible without compromising the quality of his work, so that we could get the house on the market. We worked together to pick out carpet to match the paint, and it was a perfect match. When they were done, they vacuumed the home and didn't leave a trace of trash anywhere. My only regret in working with Mr. Zavala is not using his cleaning services. I thought the price for a whole house cleaning at $450 sounded expensive, but in the end that would have been the perfect price to clean the whole house. I would not hesitate to hire Mr. Zavala again. Thank you, William Zavala for making our home beautiful again!!

Zavala Floors owner William Zavala and his outstanding crew did an amazing job refinishing my oak hardwood floors. The 25-year-old floors were in very poor condition (I love my dog, but...). Many areas were damaged by water and dog urine stains, and overall the floors looked dingy and worn. William and his crew patiently explained the process and answered my questions. After a few pieces of heavy furniture were removed by the crew, the job began early one day and was complete by the end of another long day. All vents were covered in plastic and the area (living room, dining room and foyer) was walled off in plastic from the rest of the house. Shoe molding was removed and the floors were sanded. I was able to inspect the floors after sanding was completed. The discolored areas were completely sanded away such that they were indistinguishable from the rest of the floors. Thus no boards had to be removed and replaced. The shoe molding was replaced with precision and stained and sealed to match the floors. I was able to choose a stain for the floors from a selection of different stains actually brushed on a section of the sanded floor. At the end of the first day, the stain I choose was applied to the floor and allowed to dry. After the stain was dry, the next day the crew applied 3 coats of semi-gloss, water-based sealer, allowing for drying time between each coat. (Oil-based sealer was also available, as were matte and glossy finishes.) The result: brand new, spotless floors! I was very happy with how my stain and finish choices turned out. The transformation exceeded my expectations. It was a big job with a fair amount of prep work, but certainly worth it in the end. I definitely would recommend Zavala Floors and would them again.

William and his crew did an excellent job refinishing our red oak wood floors. The floors look beautiful and we highly recommend Zavala Flooring.

From damaged to new looking. Family commented on whether we had gotten new wood flooring and we shared we had gotten them repaired and redone. Zavala Contractor is very receptive to what a customer wants. They take pride in their work and I am overall very pleased. I have looked for them again for additional home needs.

The floors looks fantastic. They did a wonderful job refinishing the wooden floors in our two story townhouse. They started the job on time and finished on schedule including sanding and three coats of polyurethane. They also replaced some sections where the wood was in bad shape. They gave a very good price and the workmanship was great. I would highly recommend them.

Mr Zavala was hired to replace the existing heart pine flooring with a new subfloor and hardwood flooring. After a couple of weeks he still had not finished removing the old flooring. After applying some pressure to get the job, he proceeded to install the subfloor on the second floor in a shoddy manner, leaving us with an uneven subfloor. He also installed the subfloor with improper nails (smooth shank) when he should have used screws or at least ring shank. In addition, there were spots where he removed the old flooring (which functions as a subfloor in old houses) underneath a partition wall, causing the partition wall to sag. At that point we lost confidence in him and fired him. Unfortunately, we had paid him half the money at the start of the job and he only completed about 1/4 of it (badly). We subsequently got estimates from other contractors who told us he had installed the subfloor incorrectly, cutting the panels too small and not using the built in grooves to align the panels. Furthermore, they informed us that it is standard professional practice to inform the owner of the value of their existing flooring, which was long-leaf heart pine. We should have been compensated for this removed material which has considerable salvage value. So it it clear that he was taking his sweet time to remove the old heart pine so that he could maximize its value to him. Furthermore, a $1000 bicycle went missing while he was working in the house, which I suspect was taken by one of his workers. Needless to say, hire this guy at your own risk.
