"In the past, we’ve typically hired general contractors based on solicitations at our home. This has unfortunately resulted in more than a few misses. But we went through Angi this time and the pro we chose, Omar’s General Contracting, was definitely a hit. Omar was professional and communicative. His crew was great. On time, very tidy, reasonably priced, flexible, and a perfect finished product. We hired them on Sunday and they started on Monday. In two days, Omar and his crew were able to basically rebuild our entire eat-in kitchen ceiling following a large plumbing project. I honestly think it looks better now than it did before the work. Amazing. We wont be needing referrals for general contractors in the future. We’ve found our company. Thank you for the great referral, Angi and team."

"The information provided on the first phone call was detailed on the process of re-glazing and the prices. Work started promptly and was finished in about 3 1/2 hours. The bathtub looks new again. The man who did the work was very professional. I did have to call them due to some sharp points on the non-slip surface, however, they came back out in a couple of days to buff out the points and re-apply a coat to the bottom of the tub. Now it's perfect! THANKS!"

"The work exceeded my expectations. The roof needed to be replaced and one whole wall was rotted out. He replaced the roof, used pressure treated wood for the walls and support boards. He also used tyvek. The repairs were higher quality than the original install. He even fixed the stuck latch. I was impressed with the careful quality work! Would definitely hire again."

"Steve came out on time and was very professional and overall just a nice guy.  He assessed the damage and confirmed that there was mold. He tested for moisture and felt that there would be minimal damage beyond replacing the cabinet. I appreciate his sincerity in advising us to use a handyman or similar service to replace the cabinet since his company focused more on the restoration and cleanup and our need for those services was minimal and would be more costly.  I also appreciate that he tested a few other areas in our home where we had had previous leaks to test for moisture and water damage. If we need restoration or clean up services in the future, I will definitely call KJS.

"Alexander was referred to me by one of my friends in the Army. The military moved my family across the country to Chevy Chase, MD. We bought a house site unseen, and showed up to discover the home was a total disaster. My wife was in tears. The hardwood floors were so bad that I thought they would need to be replaced. After consulting with Alexander, he assured me that they could be brought back to life. He also encouraged me to shop around. After doing a little research, I quickly realized that Alexander and his team were the most knowledgeable and affordable. Alexander made it a point to match any competing bids to keep me as a customer. Through the whole process it was evident that Cupboards Kitchen & Bath Discounters was passionate about their work. Alexander was always available to answer any questions that I had, and rolled over backwards to make sure I was completely satisfied. After the floors were completed, I noticed that one of the stairs was damaged from the previous owner’s dog. Alexander offered to come fix it for me free of charge. The floors turned out amazing! I could not believe the transformation. They now look brand new. My wife and I felt like we made a new friend with Alexander during our floor rehab. I would recommend him to anyone. Next up…. Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity for several reasons, though opinions on them can vary. The primary drawbacks include an outdated appearance, difficulty with cleaning and maintenance, and potential health risks, as ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos. As design trends have shifted toward sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now prefer smooth ceilings for their clean look and easier upkeep. However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as excellent acoustic properties for noise reduction and the ability to hide imperfections. Some also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective solution. Ultimately, whether they are "bad" depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and aesthetic goals.

Yes, you can cover a popcorn ceiling, which is often more cost-effective and easier than scraping it off. Common methods include using ceiling-grade drywall, applying a skim coat, or installing beadboard panels to create a smooth, updated finish. Covering the ceiling can also protect you from asbestos exposure if the material contains it. However, it's important to note that this method only seals off the asbestos and does not eliminate it, which could be a concern for future renovations or home resale. If you suspect your ceiling contains asbestos, it's best to hire a local asbestos abatement company to test the material and manage its safe removal.

As stylish new design options become more popular, modern drop ceiling designs also include metal tiles of tin and copper, which can create a dark, moody atmosphere in your basement bar, home theater, or game room. There are also a variety of modern lighting ideas for drop ceilings, including recessed and surface mount lights.

Priming a popcorn ceiling before painting is a good idea, especially if the ceiling is stained, discolored, or has never been painted. Interior paint primer helps seal the surface, preventing stains from bleeding through and allowing the paint to adhere better. Use a stain-blocking, water-based primer for best results.

Under the right circumstances, removing your popcorn ceiling can have a favorable ROI exceeding 80%. The ROI depends on several factors, such as the size of your ceiling, where the texture is located in your home, the state of the housing market, and whether the ceiling contains asbestos.
