"Fantastic. The project was completed ahead of schedule and workmanship and attention to detail was much better than expected. Rather than one step to a stoop out our front door there is now beautiful flagstone even with the entry. Four feet out to a lower 5.5” step down, then a gradual approximate 3% grade flagstone walkway down to the new concrete driveway, which eliminated one of the 6.6” steps."

"Abel and his team are highly responsible, knowledgeable of their craft and perfectionists. Abel took out concrete in my backyard and installed eco-friendly permeable pavers that look great and absorb water. He also installed lattice in my deck, painted the whole deck and fixed the upper portion of my fence. I'll be doing additional work with him and his team. Very happy with the results and the quality of the work done."

"G&D construction did a great job! They installed a 14 x 14 patio foundation for a shed. They were timely and responsive with the initial inquiries. The job was completed as expected. The team was professional and polite! Castillo and team were awesome!"

"We hired XtraCare to build a flagstone walkway after they had done beautiful work for several people in our neighborhood in Takoma DC. We are thrilled with the result. It looks gorgeous. But what I’m most happy with is that, when there were challenges, as there are with any construction project, the crew did not get frustrated or try to take any shortcuts—they did the job in the best way possible. They even fixed a drain pipe that was not part of the project! And their price was reasonable and competitive."

"I have used this company before, for a patio at our old house, so when I moved and so I would need a new sidewalk I knew who to call. Derek, the sales person and estimator, arrived right on time and was very professional in suggesting a design for the new sidewalk. He also suggested that we could use some of the existing flagstone to build a pad for our trash cans around the side of the house. they told me they estimated the work would be done at the end of August, but they actually came out two weeks early to do the work. on a hot day, the team worked hard and was very efficient and precise. Mr. Morgado the supervisor was there at the beginning and we discussed and confirmed the work to be done...then he gave clear instructions to the crew. They did a super job, and it looks terrific...attractive and professional. Santos the crew leader confirmed things with me before doing them, like how to handle a tricky step up from the driveway. We are very pleased with the sidewalk and have gotten several compliments on it."

"It was an incredible experience. He does relining of chimneys. He was incredible. The fire box repair was like $2400 which was reasonable. I got several estimates and they were the most reasonable. Everything was done professionally. When they were finished there was no clean up. I'm a real estate agent so you know they've got to be good."

"Henry Forrest and his crew finished re-pointing the stone on the outside of my 200+ year old stone roadhouse yesterday. I hired him because of the excellent reviews on Home Advisor. Mr. Forrest it's very responsive and professional and he holds his crew to the highest standards in the work that they do. I can honestly say that this was an excellent experience and that I highly recommend him without reservation. You can trust him to give you the right advice on what should be done, that it will be done correctly, and at a fair price."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.

You may not need a hammer drill if you’re planning on drilling one or two very small diameter holes in brick. For holes with a diameter of 3/16-inch or less, a regular drill with a masonry bit can do the job. However, the bit will heat up quickly, and the process will take significantly longer than with a hammer drill. Prepare to cool your drill bit down in a bucket of water more often.

Initially, brick staining is not cheaper than painting. However, while it has a higher up-front cost, it may be more cost-effective in the long run. Brick stain can last for 20 years or longer, compared to paint, which usually starts to peel away in three to five years.

Yes, professionals have the skills to restore historical or intricate masonry by respecting traditional techniques and materials. They address damage meticulously, preserving the original design while ensuring stability and longevity.
