"They found two 6 foot by 3 foot sink holes when they were preparing the land for the patio pavers.  For an additional $200 they brought in stones and filled both holes.  The patio is 15' x 20' in shades of grey stone and is exactly what I wanted.  Afterward they even put down grass seed and hay where their equipment had made a path into the yard.  I would never have expected that and was very thankful they thought to do so.  I would highly recommend them.

"Mr. Forrest and his team were very responsive to my work request to repoint areas of my brick home, including the chimney. He is very knowledgeable with masonry work and shared that knowledge with me in layman's terms so that I could understand what was needed to address and resolve my concerns. He is friendly and respectful, excels at his work, and highly values customer satisfaction. I would hire him again."

Small jobs welcome

"Great Falls originally built a stone fireplace in my family room. I was so happy with the results that I had them do interior walls of entire man cave basement with carderock stone. Later they built a three-tiered stone patio with retaining walls. The quality of stone work is the best!"

"I needed some stone patio repair in short order as I was moving. Dave came out to the site immediately to quote the job. He gave me a couple different options to choose from and pricing was favorable compared to the competitors. He quickly sourced matching stone, rearranged his crews’ schedules to get my job done, and his team did high quality work fast. Highly recommend."

"We got estimates from 3 companies for this work.  The other two were too high or commensurate, but neither were able to commit to a timeframe.  Master Fences was on-time, held to the budget, did an excellent job, and cleaned the area nicely.  Very pleased."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A traditional rectangular brick that is used for siding, brick walks, and pathways is 8 inches long by 4 inches wide. If you are shopping for fire bricks, the standard dimension is typically 9 inches long by 4.5 inches wide.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

No, it’s not recommended to attach shutters to brick without drilling. Brick is dense and built to last, so adhesives and shortcut methods don’t usually cut it. Even heavy-duty glue struggles to hold up over time—especially against wind, moisture, and temperature changes. Most no-drill options are made for materials like vinyl or wood, not solid masonry. Skipping the drill might seem easier, but it puts your shutters—and anything below them—at risk. For a secure, lasting install, drilling is the way to go. It takes more effort up front, but the result is safer and more reliable.

Cutting stone comes with a number of safety hazards. First and foremost, if you’re not comfortable with the equipment required to cut stone, including blades and grinders, you could easily injure yourself. The heavy machinery also poses a risk to your ears if you don’t wear proper ear protection; similarly, you need to wear eye protection to keep debris from irritating your eyes.

However, the biggest risk from cutting stone comes from the stone dust. When breathed in, stone dust can be a huge hazard to your lungs. Always wear a face mask when cutting stone to prevent inhaling stone dust, and thoroughly clean the work area when you are finished.

To avoid injury, we recommend hiring a stone-cutting professional, rather than attempting this job yourself.

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.
