"We had our house trim and large deck painted, and it was by far the best experience I’ve ever had! Everyone was so friendly and amazing. I think the best part was that they took so much pride in their work!! I will refer them, and use them for any painting in the future! The cost was also a great value!"

"I had a fantastic experience! Matt and company were here on time and did a great job! I had no idea my rooms could look so good! They scrape the peeling paint, patched all the holes and imperfections with joint compound, and sanded everything and left the walls even. They covered everything not paint-able with plastic and drop clothes in order to prevent paint splatter and cleaned up really well when done!"

"This was a multi-phased project involving a large home, with considerable coordination with other vendors. We chose Target because they were willing to replace a dozen windows for us; three of which were large crescent windows involving carpentry work. They also were able to replace some exterior trim in a cost effective manner. We found Target Painting responsive, and very professional. All estimates were very detailed. For the project phases they had control of, they started and finished on time. The window manufacturer was the only fly in the ointment- taking 4 to 6 weeks to send windows that were occasionally arrived broken, or the wrong size (multiple times.) It took a lot of persistence on Target's part to see it through. The company is large enough to support several crews, all of whom were employees and not subcontractors. This allowed them to be very responsive to certain requests, such as a last minute interior repair following a water leak. There were a few issues that had to be addressed- it would be unreasonable to expect otherwise in a project this large. For example, the deck was not stained properly- but Target quickly acknowledged it and took care of it. Near the end of the project, we came up with a relatively short punch list, and everything was addressed. A special shout out to the two Fabiano's, one acted as the interior QA person, often touching up the work of others. The other was the carpenter who took care of all the window repairs and exterior trim work. Also to Jayleen in the home office, who was instrumental in following up with the troublesome windows manufacturer. And last, to Gene Williams, the Sales Manager, for providing accurate information and good advice throughout, and ensuring that all things came together."

"The Evolution Painting Company was very cooperative about completing the project within the dates we have specified. The work they did was excellent, the workers arrived on time every day and did not leave until the job for the day was done. The job supervisor checked the work at the end of each day and they payed attention to all the detail. They were polite and courteous and very eager to please. We are thrilled with the work that they did with painting our house and staining our decks."

"Erivan has done a lot of painting over the years for our triple decker - exterior and interior. This summer he painted our rental unit and as usual did a wonderful job - he shows up on time, is very neat, and does a very professional job. He also just power washed and stained our first floor porch, painted some new window trims that we'd just had replaced, and also repainted some of the trim around the porch even though we hadn't asked him to do so. It looks great! Erivan takes great pride in his work and we always feel like he's taking care of our home as if it is his own. He is also a very warm and friendly person."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

You should refinish your deck to maintain its appearance, durability, and longevity. Refinishing your deck protects the wood from foot traffic and the elements. It also helps extend its life span by keeping rot, mildew, and termites at bay. By maintaining your deck, you can avoid the cost of replacing your deck sooner. A refinished deck also looks great and restores some of its original beauty.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.
