"Phil and his crew were awesome. They arrived promptly and got right to work. They removed my former flooring, cleaned up, and installed the new hardwood flooring. Plastic was placed strategically so that all other areas of the house were not affected by the dust. The workers were very respectful and helpful with any questions I asked. Overall it was a very professional job. My floors are gorgeous!!"

"I've hired these guys for two projects, one for installing hardwood floors in a tricky one-bedroom apartment and the other for sanding/sealing the hardwood floors of a three-bedroom house. Both times, I was impressed with the quality, efficiency, work ethic, and price of the service. These are my go-to flooring guys."

"I am in a process of kitchen remodel and after removing three layers of flooring (two different layers of vinyl tiles and one layer of ceramic tiles) found an original, 90-year old heart pine wood floor. I decided to call a pro to see if it can be saved and refinished. Some of the boards were quite damaged (holes, gouges, gaps, missing pieces etc.) I tried calling several companies, but none was as responsive as Weles. After I called, Sasha came to my house the same night to take a look at the floor and measure. He sent me an estimate the next day and got me on a schedule the following week to do the work. It took two days to complete, the crew arrived early in the morning just as they said they would. They were all very polite and professional. They didnâ t leave until they finished what needed to be done, so they stayed until 6:30pm the first day, sanding away and applying the first coat of the finish. The replacement board they had brought with them werenâ t quite matching (turns out this flooring is hard to find these days), but they were able to quickly locate and bring another set of boards that looked exactly like the ones I had, which made me very happy. They carefully cut out the damaged pieces and filled the gaps with the replacement pieces before sanding (they do dustless sanding, which is pretty cool) and applying the finish. The result is a beautiful looking floor. We are very happy with the work Weles did. I highly recommend giving Sasha a call if you need your floors repaired/refinished."

Customers say: Quality work

"I originally hired Cliff a couple of years ago to refinished our hardwood floors at a previous house. He did a great job on it, so I decided to ask him to install new hardwood floors at our new house. Again, he also did a great job. Cliff is friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. The quote he gave us was also reasonable. I highly recommend Cliff for hardwood floor refinish or installation."

"Very professional. After they sanded my floor, one board was distinctly different - a light wood instead of a red oak. I called after they sanded the room and the next day when they finished - wow I could not tell the difference. It was unexpected and they came through. I highly recommend them."

"Stop searching for a flooring pro and hire Eddie! You will not regret it. I'm a first homeowner, I had plenty of questions and Eddie was awesome to work with. Him and his crew were very professional, Eddie gave me updates and sent me pictures every day, and they even finished the project ahead of time. The project was to remove carpet in 3 bedrooms and replace with hardwood. Eddie recommended doing a poly coat in all the house so everything matches. Wow... my floors are beautiful, perfect finish, and everything is super clean. I highly highly recommend them. Eddie - thank you so much!"

Small jobs welcome

"Kemal was given a tough job. I had to replace two sections of flooring that had been water damaged. The original flooring was discontinued so a match needed to be made. After numerous tries, he was able to find a match. I had significantly higher bids and more complicated solutions from other reputable flooring companies. Kemal and is crew took great care in getting the best results for me. He is very knowledgeable and I would recommend him to anyone who is considering flooring project."

Customers say: Terrific value

"I would definitely recommend Ron Wilson to a friend. We had hardwood floors in 2 bedrooms refinished, the floors were covered by carpets for many, many years. Our floors came out beautifully and they were able to get out an unknown stain from the wood. I found Ron to be reliable, professional, and well priced. They came when they said they would, they worked efficiently and cleaned up! The clean up was also a big deal for me and you would have never known they were there."

Floor Sanding questions, answered by experts

This is fairly rare, but sometimes the local government or a group like a historical society will label a tree as a landmark, or historical item. These designations almost always come with a small, on-site plaque for identification, but you should also be able to look up protected trees in your area on a city website or similar list. If the tree in question is a landmark, call your local government and ask how to proceed before making any plans.

A few different types of land surveys can help determine certain features and boundaries of your property. These include:

  • Boundary surveys describe the actual borders of a property. These are generally required when trying to get construction permits issued.

  • Location surveys provide much of the same information as a boundary survey but also include in-depth information about any improvements made to your property.

  • Mortgage location surveys are usually required by lenders and title companies before financing or offering an insurance policy.

  • Site-planning surveys are done before applying for building permits and can be issued before any major home improvements.

  • Topographic surveys provide a formal map of land elevations. It can also describe the location and size of natural features and any land improvements.

Measure from zero on a measuring tape by placing the metal hook right up against the edge of what you need to measure. You can also latch the hook onto an open edge—of, say, a table—to accurately measure as well. If you begin at the 1-inch mark, you'll need to subtract an inch from your total.

It is almost always necessary to hire a land surveyor near you to ensure your fence sits on the right side of the property line. Mistaking the shape of your property can lead to fines and costly changes if you have to move or adjust the privacy fence—not to mention some surly looks from your neighbor. We recommend jumpstarting your fence planning in the spring to ensure there is plenty of time to map out your plan before construction season.

You will find a collection of licensed land surveyors in your area. Your real estate agent or construction manager may also be able to recommend a trusted professional. When speaking with prospective pros in your area, ask the land surveyor if they are licensed in the state, have liability insurance, and can quote you a fee before starting.
