Wood stain remover should remove most, if not all, of that wood stain on its own. While sanding can be a great final step, especially if you’re planning to paint or restrain the wood, it isn’t always required. Following the first three steps of this process can leave you with beautiful results. 

You can redo hardwood floors without sanding, but only if the floor is in tip-top condition. In this case, buff the floor, apply a gloss, and vacuum regularly to keep everything clean. However, if you notice waxy buildup or notice scratches and dents, you’ll want to sand the floors first for a cleaner finish. Without sanding, the new stain could make the scratches more prominent.
