"Insul-Kings is wonderful to work with. They called in the morning to narrow the arrival time, which is very considerate. Nate and his crew arrived on time and CRANKED like a well oiled machine. I have a 4' crawl space. You can barely crouch. No problem! That's why God invented knee pads. They foamed and installed the insulation like it was their own home. It was a work of art. and came out better than I imagined. They patiently indulged my "old man" inquisitiveness. The crew represented Insul-Kings very well. I highly recommend them. This was done through the Mass Save program. So the $2100 job only cost me about $500.00"

"I was plagued with recurring ice dams in a few areas of my roof. After investigation, it was discovered that the insulation in a few visible areas was sub-par. Roland came in and quickly spotted the problem areas. He assured me that the could fix these problems immediately. He used a combination of rearranging existing batts, blown-in fiberglass and spray foam to seal the attic space, over the course of two visits. He's extremely personable and always called me back or answered the phone right away."

"Tony arrived on time, was very efficient, did a great job of ensuring the door was sealed from the outside air and elements, did caulking, foam insulation, used primed wood, did fine finish work, spoke with my husband along the way to ensure the right decisions, and even rewired the new door for the alarm system. Everything looks great! I now just need to do finish painting work on the door casing (our door was prepainted). Tony's on the top of my list for our next carpentry job. Note: the cost of service does not include the door itself."

This is probably not your roof:
But, if your roof has damaged flashing, missing shingles, curling, blistering, buckling, rotting and algae growth (which appears as dark or greenish stains), you probably need a new roof.
If you’re roofer doesn’t talk about these, you’re talking to the wrong guy:

"Don was always helpful, and I felt from the start that I was speaking with someone who meant to do me well-and he did. From start to finish it was a really great experience. The work involved a basement restoration following a broken water heater pipe/flooding of the basement: rebuilding walls, adding the wanes coating look, painting, electrical, recasing damaged doors, replacing insulation and installing new flooring. His quote was great and did not change (except when I wanted to add something to it). He was always quick to respond to any questions, calls or text messages throughout the project. Part of running a successful company is hiring the right people. Don had an excellent crew, and they were a pleasure to have in my home. They always arrived on time, and the job was completed in a very timely manner, with absolutely beautiful results (see pics). Many homeowners can attest that having construction going on in a home is usually disruptive, but I never felt this way with Don and his crew. Aside from the sounds of tools, I hardly knew they were downstairs; they were always working steadily, staying focused on their work. I work from home and had no issues-it was business as usual. One day, as they were leaving after a long days work, I unexpectedly (to them) showed up with the flooring/subflooring for the job (my choice to provide the flooring). Without a moments hesitation or even a grimace, he offered to unload it all and take it down to the basement, wanting to get it out of my van so it wouldn't be in my way-even though they were literally about to leave, and would be back early the next morning. He's super professional, and yet kindly personable at the same time. Don also shared ways we could lower our costs without diminishing the quality and beauty of the work (ask him about the wanes coating!) Don is an upstanding, excellent contractor I'd recommend to anyone-and already have several times. We're already looking forward to hiring him for our next project."

"Vista installed new vinyl siding on our house and I couldn't be happier with the result. Our house looks brand new and I love the color. The communication was excellent! Every step of the project was very organized and I loved how Keith and Brian checked in every few days. The work crew was very repectful of our propery and the quality quality of work is amazing. Overall it was a refreshing, seamless experience. I would highly recommend them."

"We have a single family split level house in Newton and need to remodel our kitchen, living room and dining room. Kitchen Center of Framingham discussed with us our specific needs in our remodeling, designed the kitchen, living room, & dining room layout for us, measured the size of window, recommended best cabinetry that fits our needs. They ordered and provided us custom cabinetry & counter-top, installed the cabinetry, supervised custom counter top installation. They worked seamlessly with our General Contractor who supervised the rest of the job (demolition, plasters, electric, plumbing etc). We are very happy about their work.  The designer Hagit Belfer did all the work, and she said that her boss was very supportive as well, and often acted as her sounding board in discussing the project. They did a fantastic job. We will definitely use them again."

FAQs for insulation service projects in Shirley, MA

When choosing a professional insulation installer, consider asking these questions to determine the best fit.

  • Will you address air leaks in my house?

  • Can you provide an R-value (heat resistance) fact sheet?

  • What kind of insulation will work best for my home?

  • How do you handle signs of a water leak?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Can you provide customer references?

The best type of insulation for your home depends on what you need, so the answer will depend on your specific situation. If you’re building a house, structural panels are easy to install during the building process in addition to being the most energy efficient type. If you live in a warm climate, reflective insulation may benefit you more as it costs less than other insulation types. And for standard attics, loose-fill, spray foam, or blown-in insulation work well.

If you plan to heat or cool your garage, you’ll need to insulate the garage ceiling. Insulating your garage ceiling will make your garage much more energy efficient and save on heating and cooling costs. Not only does insulation make your garage more energy efficient, it helps reduce noise and can extend the life of your garage roof. You can use fiberglass, cellulose, mineral wool, or spray foam insulation for this project.

In some cases, you may not have enough insulation to properly regulate your home’s temperature. Watch for a few signs your home needs more insulation, such as:

  • High heating and cooling bills

  • Uncomfortable room temperatures

  • Ice dams on the edge of your roof

  • Roof leaks

  • Cold floors and walls

  • Freezing pipes

  • Temperature fluctuations

  • Visibly low insulation

  • Noise problems

  • Pest problems

On average, insulating an attic costs about $2,500, ranging from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on the insulation type, amount, and your attic’s accessibility. Additional cost factors include sealing air leaks, removal or replacement of insulation, and inspections. Types of insulation include:

  • Blown-in: $1–$4 per square foot

  • Spray foam: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Batt: $2–$4 per square foot

  • Structural insulated panels: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Loose-fill: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Reflective: $0.50–$1.50 per square foot
