Customers say: Super punctual

"Professional crew; work was done quickly, with minimal disruption and fairly good cleanup. The house is older and the crew chief took reviewed the interior carefully to insure there would be no damage to the walls in the insulation process."

"Insul-Kings is wonderful to work with. They called in the morning to narrow the arrival time, which is very considerate. Nate and his crew arrived on time and CRANKED like a well oiled machine. I have a 4' crawl space. You can barely crouch. No problem! That's why God invented knee pads. They foamed and installed the insulation like it was their own home. It was a work of art. and came out better than I imagined. They patiently indulged my "old man" inquisitiveness. The crew represented Insul-Kings very well. I highly recommend them. This was done through the Mass Save program. So the $2100 job only cost me about $500.00"

"Hugh's Energy is a quality company and it starts at the top with owner-President, Tom Dromgoole. Tom made a site visit to my home to discuss details of the insulation including the process, timing, and outcomes; he answered all of my questions. He also came the day of the insulation to check on how things were going. His crew, led by Parris, was excellent - knowledgeable, efficient and clean. If you are considering insulating your home, just call this company and save yourself time."

"I was plagued with recurring ice dams in a few areas of my roof. After investigation, it was discovered that the insulation in a few visible areas was sub-par. Roland came in and quickly spotted the problem areas. He assured me that the could fix these problems immediately. He used a combination of rearranging existing batts, blown-in fiberglass and spray foam to seal the attic space, over the course of two visits. He's extremely personable and always called me back or answered the phone right away."

"This is the second time I have used MA Design and Construction for a project in my house. Both times were great. For the most recent job, they framed up a partially finished basement, added carpet, leveled the ceiling, added a door and electrical outlets and insulated and painted the walls. The finished product looked great. I have found them super easy to work with - they are always very responsive to any questions that I have and they are great about communicating. I plan to have them do additional work for us in the future."

"Tony arrived on time, was very efficient, did a great job of ensuring the door was sealed from the outside air and elements, did caulking, foam insulation, used primed wood, did fine finish work, spoke with my husband along the way to ensure the right decisions, and even rewired the new door for the alarm system. Everything looks great! I now just need to do finish painting work on the door casing (our door was prepainted). Tony's on the top of my list for our next carpentry job. Note: the cost of service does not include the door itself."

"They are bar far the most responsive, ontime and dependable providers I have worked with. Above all they take pride in what they do so you don't end up with lousy results. Alessandro came and looked at the project and came back with his estimate in a few days. Since the weather was not helping at the beginning they started with my basement job (a special thanks to Marcus). The basement finishing went very well with timely addressing of various problems we want to cover. I am particularly happy with the type of insulation they used. Very neat and clean. My basement was very humid and during the rainy season the walls inside could get wet. I am sure this over the long run saves a lot of money for me. Re porch and balcony, they have done and impeccable carpentry job. What I loved was that whenever the Boston's weather permitted they were on the property working. So no wasting time. While they did this we uncovered a big problem in footing of my sunroom. They immediately switched to that and with minimal time wasted I had new footings under my sunroom. The same type of job is done in my balcony. The decking and railing are replaced. Painted as new. Again in a very efficient way. I think it's worth mentioning that this was a per hour job but never have I felt that Alessandro's team are working slower than they should. This is a big plus. On top of that, they were flexible with the pricing and offered free labor for basement flooring and sunroom door adjustments (to be done this week). When I wanted to discuss the financials of this job Alessandro and Giovanni came to my house for an in person discussion. All in all, I would use their service next time. They might not look the cheapest at the beginning but considering what other providers do (with low estimates and keep adding to it), their price was very reasonable."

The whole Pro Home Services crew was very professional and helpful whenever we had any questions. We're very happy with the way that our home looks from before, we have received many compliments from our neighbors and friends. We can not  thank Pro Home Services enough for the great work that they accomplished, work was completed in the amount of time that was said in a neatly manner.   Words can not express our gratitude to Pro Home Services for the diligence of the workers."

This is probably not your roof:
But, if your roof has damaged flashing, missing shingles, curling, blistering, buckling, rotting and algae growth (which appears as dark or greenish stains), you probably need a new roof.
If you’re roofer doesn’t talk about these, you’re talking to the wrong guy:

"I first contacted Three Mason's after reading reviews on Angie's List. We recently bought a short sale home that is in need of some serious TLC. We needed all four exterior doors replaced, all because of rot and to upgrade to composite doors and jams. I e-mailed them about getting a quote and Lisa at the office was responsive in setting me up with a time John could come out and see the property. His original quote was for replacing and sourcing the doors in kind. We ended up buying the doors ourselves but having John come to first replace the back porch door which was the worst of all four. He quoted me $400 to replace the back door, kickboard and trim. Since we had the door it was mostly labor and some small materials. We knew there was likely more rot than accounted for in just replacing the door but he came out for the door replacement anyway. When he started the work he found extensive rot because an old contractor hadn't used pressure treated wood on an addition where the door was. He assessed the problem, checked all the surrounding structure, and quickly came up with a solution. He gave me good advice and offered ways to keep the rot from spreading. He ended up replacing the sill under the door and reinforcing our subfloor to the house. He had to go and buy more materials (namely the 2x10 that replaced the sill) but managed to still complete all the replacement and door install in one day. He only charged me an extra $325 for the extra time and materials. His work was excellent and he was very knowledgeable. I will have him back to replace the other doors in my home as well as do some sheetrock work in upstairs bedrooms. I highly recommend working with John and his company.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

To keep cold out, look for treatments that sit close to the window frame and are made from thick, insulating materials. Thermal curtains, cellular shades, window quilts, and insulated shutters can all help retain heat. Layering window treatments, like pairing lined curtains with cellular shades, can provide even better insulation by further reducing drafts and heat transfer.

The thickness of floor insulation will depend on the R-value you plan to achieve. R-value varies on the type of material as well as its thickness and density. Insulation materials with low R-values can be layered to match the value of denser materials. As long as your floor insulation is packed tightly, seals the area from drafts, and doesn’t prevent ventilation, it can be as thick (or thin) as you need.

Your house may be cold even if the heat is on because of bad insulation, gaps in doors, small holes pulling hot air from the home, or excess humidity. The heater itself might be malfunctioning. For this problem, you’d need to talk to an HVAC pro. If you have a gas heating system (most do) this should be considered an urgent job as natural gas could be leaking in your home.

How to dispose of insulation depends on a few factors, including the condition of the material. While you can simply bag up and throw away many kinds of insulation, some municipalities offer recycling, so it's worth checking with yours. If there are contaminants such as asbestos in your insulation, abatement and specialized disposal are often necessary.

If you’re a savvy DIYer around the house, own the basic tools, and have enough time on your hands, you can definitely install fiberglass insulation yourself. Doing the work yourself will certainly keep overall insulation costs down. However, if you’re not confident in your handy skills around the house, call in a professional.
