"J May Home Inspections is probably the best in New England. All aspects of the inspection were done in a timely, efficient, knowledgeable, professional manner. Mike first provided a summary of the relevant issues and then quickly followed up with a comprehensive report. The price was fair and the inspection done to the highest standards. He patiently and clearly answered all questions during the walkthrough of the home and property. I would recommend J May Home Inspection and Milke to anyway needing a home inspection in this area."

"Jason showed up early and was extremely detailed on our home inspection. He completed the report with photos of the entire property the same day. He also outlined tasks that need to be done in short and long term periods. We had a really great experience with him and would recommend him to anyone!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Stuart is professional, thorough, responsive and very knowledgeable. He patiently answered all of our questions throughout the inspection and we left feeling like we had a great understanding of the home we're buying. As for the inspection report itself, I intend to reference it for months and years to come as I prioritize improvements. Stuart was also able to turn the report around quickly to accommodate the timelines of our purchase. I would 100% recommend him to anyone in need of home inspection services."

"Jeff was awesome. The house we are buying was in excellent overall condition. Jeff did an incredibly thorough inspection that I attended. His inspection report was comprehensive and identified a number of electrical hazards, potential plumbing hazards, and minor concerning items that I was able to bring up with the Seller. I got all of the hazards fixed and got some Seller credits for items like small areas of rotten siding and roofing that was at the end of its useful life. Jeff helped answer my questions after he completed the inspection report. We also ordered a radon and water test and Jeff got those results back to us promptly. Overall, I highly recommend working with Jeff for your home inspection -- his services are well worth the money, and he's a pleasure to work with. Thanks Jeff!"

"Jason had come out to do the inspection and then again with another gentleman to do the remediation. Jason was able to schedule the appointment within days for the remediation. They estimated 2.5 hours and they were done just before that time frame. They were quick, efficient, cleaned up after themselves and very friendly. attic looks great! I would use them again!"

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

A home inspector is only required to give a copy of their report to the party who hired them. This means that only a seller would receive a copy of a pre-listing inspection report, while only the buyer receives a report for pre-purchase home inspections. You can choose to share this report with the other party, but this isn’t a common practice. As a seller, you would typically only get a sense of the most significant inspection discoveries when you receive a request for repair from the buyer.

Professionals use brushes, vacuums, and diagnostic tools to ensure thorough cleaning and safety.

Most areas require both a building permit and an electrical permit for the installation of a home wind turbine. You may also need zoning approval, especially if your property is in a residential neighborhood or near protected land. Inspections are needed after foundation work and upon completion of electrical connections. Permit costs can range from $100 to $1,000, depending on local regulations and project complexity.

It is generally recommended to schedule a professional plumbing inspection annually for an average home. However, the ideal frequency can vary. Newer homes may only require an inspection every two years, while older homes, or those with a history of plumbing problems, benefit from more frequent annual checkups. Other factors that might necessitate more frequent inspections include having hard water or mature trees on your property with extensive root systems that could damage sewer and water lines. Regular maintenance helps identify potential issues early, preventing costly repairs, and typically includes checking for leaks, inspecting connections, and ensuring pipes and fixtures are in good working condition to extend the life of your plumbing system.

It’s a good idea to be present for a home inspection so the inspector has access to anything they need for the inspection and so you can ask the home inspector questions if necessary. You don’t need to shadow the inspector while they’re conducting the inspection—in fact, it’s better if you don’t—but don’t go too far in case they need access to something or have any questions.
