"I just had Stone Age Masonry install a brick and flagstone porch, and I’m super happy with how it turned out! Eddie and his team really know their stuff. It did take a little longer than I expected, but honestly, I appreciate Eddie’s perfectionist side. He really takes his time to make sure everything is perfect, and it definitely shows in the final result. My porch looks amazing and has completely changed the look of my entrance! Eddie kept me in the loop throughout the whole process, which I really appreciated. If you’re looking for quality masonry work, I can’t recommend Stone Age Masonry enough. Thanks, Eddie, for the awesome job!"

"I cannot say enough about James and Bryce. They were not only professional, but knowledgeable and courteous as well. We had consulted two prior companies about getting our fireplace operational with ventless gas logs. They both said it would be difficult, if not impossible. All-Star Drain Solutions came out for an initial consultation, advised us what needed to be done and, on their second trip, did the install at a reasonable price.. The fireplace looks great! We couldnâ t be happier. I would highly recommend All-Star to anybody."

"Erie Home Basement Solutions was a pleasure to work with. Everyone was on time, and always polite and courteous throughout this process. This is extremely hard work and they continued to always have a smile on their face and answer any questions I had. They worked diligently to complete the project on time and fulfilled all aspects of the contract. Actually, they went above and beyond to make sure I was pleased with their service, which is unusual in todayâ s work culture. I would highly recommend this company for your basement waterproofing needs."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

The longevity of masonry work in KY depends heavily on using the correct mortar. Applying modern cement to older brick causes severe cracking. You must schedule repairs during mild spring or fall weather, as extreme temperatures weaken the mortar bond. Proper foundation drainage and a well-constructed chimney crown are also essential to shed water away from the structure. Always hire a certified specialist to ensure all repairs meet local building codes.

Helpful?

Older homes in Richmond built before the 1970s are prime candidates for masonry work. Inspect your exterior walls and chimney for cracked mortar joints, white salt deposits, or flaking brick faces caused by the 15 to 20 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Because the local limestone bedrock causes uneven foundation settling, you should check for structural movement. A local professional will assess these issues and recommend the necessary repairs to keep your home safe.

Helpful?

Several common habits accelerate damage to masonry work in KY. Directing lawn sprinklers at brick walls or neglecting clogged gutters forces excess moisture into mortar joints. Allowing aggressive vines like English ivy to grow against your home causes severe mechanical damage. You must also avoid high-pressure washing, applying non-breathable sealers, and using harsh rock salt on brick walkways, as these practices quickly erode older brick surfaces and trap destructive moisture inside.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work provides immediate protection against heavy spring rainfall and eliminates serious fire hazards before the cold Richmond winters begin. Over the long term, maintaining your brick exterior prevents severe structural deterioration and keeps your home energy efficient. Well-maintained brickwork directly improves your property value in the local market while preserving the historic charm of older neighborhoods. Address these repairs early to keep your foundation strong and secure.

Helpful?

Prioritize a comprehensive chimney inspection to eliminate fire hazards before the cold Richmond winters. Next, inspect your foundation walls and exterior brick for crumbling mortar, and schedule repointing to block moisture before the wet spring season arrives. You should also repair damaged brick steps and retaining walls to resolve immediate safety hazards. Always check local historical guidelines before starting any exterior masonry work to ensure your updates remain compliant.
