"I just had Stone Age Masonry install a brick and flagstone porch, and I’m super happy with how it turned out! Eddie and his team really know their stuff. It did take a little longer than I expected, but honestly, I appreciate Eddie’s perfectionist side. He really takes his time to make sure everything is perfect, and it definitely shows in the final result. My porch looks amazing and has completely changed the look of my entrance! "I cannot say enough about James and Bryce. They were not only professional, but knowledgeable and courteous as well. We had consulted two prior companies about getting our fireplace operational with ventless gas logs. They both said it would be difficult, if not impossible. All-Star Drain Solutions came out for an initial consultation, advised us what needed to be done and, on their second trip, did the install at a reasonable price.. The fireplace looks great! When painting brick, each application method has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Spraying is significantly faster but may not penetrate deeply beyond the surface layer. Rolling is effective for working paint into the brick's texture but can be less effective on mortar joints. If you opt for a roller, choose a thick nap of at least a half-inch to ensure paint gets into all the crevices for even coverage. Using a brush is generally not recommended as it is very time-consuming and provides poor surface penetration. Ultimately, a combination of spraying followed by back-rolling is often the best strategy for a durable and even finish.

A mason lays brick or stone together, sometimes with mortar in between the bricks and stones, and sometimes without mortar, also called a dry-stack or surface bonding. Examples of work masons do include:

  • Brick, stone, or cement block houses and buildings

  • Freestanding stone or brick walls

  • Chimneys with wood-burning fireplaces

  • Cement block basement or crawl space walls

To stain brick, you should use a product specifically formulated for brick, concrete, or other masonry surfaces. These stains are designed to penetrate the porous surface of the brick and bond with it. This is different from paint, which sits on the surface and is prone to peeling, flaking, and trapping moisture that can cause damage. Water-based brick stains are often recommended because they are easy to apply, even for DIYers, and they allow the brick to breathe. Avoid using regular paint on brick, as it will not adhere properly and can lead to future maintenance problems.

Do not use super glue to hang lights on brick unless you want your lights up year-round. Hot glue is a better choice because it’s easily removable with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Super glue is very hard to remove, and you could tear off parts of the brick in the removal process.

Limewash can be removed from brick, but the method of removal will depend on how long the limewash has been on the brick. If the limewash has fully dried—which happens after about five days—you’ll need to use a diluted muriatic acid mixture to remove it. If there are multiple coats of limewash, you may need to apply the acid mixture several times to fully remove it from the brick.
