Professional chimney sweeping and fireplace repairs; chimney and masonry repairs of all kinds; reasonable prices for chimney sweepings and dryer vent cleanings; Charges by the job for major repairs.

"The work was delayed for one thing after another and the job has never been completed. NO work was ever carried out for the rebuilding of the brick courses on the fireplace chimney. The crown on the fireplace was never replaced per the contract, but left partially broken and cracked with water intrusion during the first winter after the supposed rebuild and liner installation. The stainless steel liner had to be "undersized" due to unforeseen issues once the work had been initiated. They charged a "research fee" to match / find the proper brick which they brought in less than a full pallet and far short to carry out the complete chimney rebuild. After being advised of the owners "back back after a fall" and the inability to finish the terms of the contract, I never heard from the owner again. She had no problem walking away with the deposit of $5,700 on a $11,900 contract, so I guess her back wasn't all that bad!"

At Cornerstone, we pride ourselves in being the best we can be in order to provide you top quality service. In order to continue this level of excellence, we focus on the following core values that are the foundation of our company.

"My family could have died because of Cornerstone Inspection Services' negligence. Cornerstone Inspection inspected our new home July 2024 before we bought it. We noticed a gas smell since the first day of walking through the utility room but no one said anything and when we received our inspection report and it didn't have anything about a gas leak, we trusted them and thought a little smell must be normal. In Nov 2024 our extended family said we should get it checked out. Centerpoint immediately detected 5-6 large leaks all over the utility room, locked the outside gas box and shut it off, leaving us with no heat or hot water for 2 days before we could have a plumber replace most of the gas lines in the utility room. The leak was so severe my family and I could have died if our house blew up. Not only did Cornerstone Inspection completely miss 5-6 severe gas leaks, when we reached asking for help with the bill, they went as low as they could go. First, they accused, and still accuse both large well-reputable plumbing companies in Noblesville of trying to sell us unnecessary and expensive repairs. The reality is, we had the 2 independent professional companies both agree with each other the same scope (quotes were $1500-2,200) I told both companies CIS accused them of trying to sell unnecessary fixes and they were rightly offended. One asked for CIS's name. Additionally, both companies had 4 plumbers (2 each with managers involved) speak into the proposals vs 1 CIS inspector and his plumber friend he refers to. By the way, his friend never even came in our house to assess anything before accusing these other companies. Second, CIS claims all the leaks occurred in the 60 day timeframe from when they inspected it to when we moved in. The previous owners did not have any gas line or other work done in the utility room in that timeframe. Both plumbing companies say there is no way all those leaks immediately came to be in that short timeframe and the one who we hired to replace the lines said it happened over a long period of time (years) due to improper original installation. Note: We learned CIS only use their noses to detect if there is a gas leak whereas there is a special gas detector tool Centerpoint uses that I'm sure they could invest in. To this day CIS will not budge. They accuse 2 companies of excessive selling and make a claim that is completely bogus to save themselves. They even quoted us multiple lines of their contract saying the inspection is not a warranty or guaranteed, etc. So, they're basically saying in their contract, if they get something wrong, they're off the hook, (including a $1500-2200 multiple gas leaks situation where a house could blow up.) To me that means, don't trust anything they say. And even more, if they can miss this magnitude of a gas leak, your family could be in grave danger if you use them. Stay away from CIS and pass this true event on to others."

Full Service Residential General Contractor--Owner Operated. Keenly focused and experienced in Real Estate Inspection Repairs, Pre-Listing Repairs/Updates, Remodeling, Service, and Handyman Project.

"When I purchased my home, I hired FPS to perform some "light" remodeling prior to moving in. During the remodeling, we discovered significant issues with the home that were previously unknown. The issues that we uncovered (mold, water damage, structural issues, code violations) required EXTENSIVE remediation and reconstruction to render the property habitable. Some of the issues were of an urgent nature. This created a very stressful situation for our family. The owner of FPS, Marc Fairchild, helped us understand the issues at hand and was both timely and professional in helping us navigate the remediation and subsequent reconstruction over an 8+ month period. In addition, Marc was very kind and compassionate to our family throughout the project(s) as this unforeseen situation created both financial and legal hardships. In addition, Marc has the most detailed documentation process of any contractor I have ever worked with. His level of documentation and detail has been absolutely vital throughout these projects. Some of the issues required emergency remediation that Marc and FPS addressed swiftly and efficiently. Marc coordinated with multiple subcontractors, creating a seamless process for us. In the end, the FPS team demolished the entire finished basement, worked with a subcontractor to remediate the mold issues and rebuilt the entire basement (starting from and including the studs). They took it from the concrete walls to a fully finished basement in several months. This included updated HVAC venting, installation of new egress window, updated plumbing, building a functional living space (completed with beautiful vinyl barnwood flooring) and installing a full bathroom and closet. We are very happy with the basement. It looks beautiful and is now a fully functional and safe place for our family. The FPS team also demolished the sunroom floor to perform crawl space remediation and reconstruction and address water issues in the space. They replaced some of the structural elements that had become damaged and installed a beautiful new tile floor as well as several new doors. The FPS team demolished living room built-ins and coordinated with a subcontractor to replace old carpet with hardwood. We found a large wood beam in an old barn. The FPS team took the beam that we found and used it to fabricate a new fireplace mantel. They modernized the staircase and installed new hardware throughout the house (hinges, door handles, locks, etc.). They installed 3 new doors (one exterior, two interior). They installed a new tile laundry room floor and installed the washer and dryer. They hung all of the items on the wall that were too heavy for us to hang by ourselves (everything is perfectly measured and centered). They installed an antique chandelier and replaced the great room ceiling fan. Marc and the FPS team are the best contractors I have ever worked with. The entire crew is professional and respectful. The majority of work (~7 months) was conducted prior to us moving in the home. The last month of construction was finished after we moved in. During that time, the crew was very thoughtful about minimizing the impact of ongoing activities to our family. Throughout the many projects, we only had a few minor issues. Initially I was unhappy with the look of the fireplace mantel and the staircase spindles. FPS fixed both to my satisfaction and at their expense. On one occasion, one of the workers accidentally left the gate open and our dogs ran away. When we discovered this, the worker stopped what he was doing at another property and immediately returned to our house. He was apologetic and helped us search for several hours until we found the dogs. I was so grateful to the FPS staff for making things right in these situations. I already have several additional projects lined up with FPS in the coming year. Whenever I need anything related to my home, FPS is my first call. My advice to others....FPS is excellent which means that their schedule books up quickly. If you are looking to get some work done, I recommend that you call at least 3-4 weeks in advance."

At BPG, we believe home inspections shouldn't end at the driveway. Our inspectors and engineers undergo thorough background checks and must meet ongoing training and performance standards -- they are a selective group of professionals. With so many inspection companies to choose from, how do you select one that fits your needs? We've earned a solid reputation for standing behind our work and providing distinct value advantages that help protect our clients.

"BPG Inspections Failed to Honor Their Guarantee or Take Accountability Summary: In my experience, BPG Inspections failed to uphold their guarantee, and I encountered poor follow-up and vague, shifting justifications for denying my claim. Details: I hired BPG Inspections in Pensacola, FL, to inspect a home I purchased in April. The inspection occurred in March, and I moved in during May. Within a few days of moving in – well within the 90-day warranty period – I discovered two issues that the inspection report had explicitly marked as functional: 1. The garbage disposal unit did not work (it made a soft noise but did not function). 2. The HVAC system failed to deliver air to the kitchen and adjacent bedroom, though the inspection report had indicated the air handling was operational and in good condition. I promptly emailed BPG about these problems, and while the inspector initially responded, I was then passed to their claims department. After repeated follow-ups, I finally received a call on June 23rd – nearly a month after reporting the issue – only to be told that neither issue was covered under their warranty. I raised the following concerns: 1. For the HVAC, the inspector had confirmed it was functional in an email, contradicting the claims department's later justification that it could not be tested. If no air reaches two rooms, it should have been evident during either heating or cooling tests – this was missed. 2. For the garbage disposal, I was told it was a "kitchen appliance" and therefore not covered, despite it being a fixture included in inspections. When I asked where the warranty excluded it, I received inconsistent explanations. At no point did the company offer to re-inspect or further investigate these issues. I expected more accountability from a professional inspection service – especially one offering a guarantee."

FAQs for home inspection projects in Indianapolis, IN

It’s important to get a home inspection when buying a home because home inspectors are trained to examine the various aspects of a home to determine that everything is in good condition and find unseen problems that current homeowners need to fix before the home sale takes place. Although home inspections are not legally required, a thorough inspection can help you decide if you want to purchase a home. That’s why it’s essential to keep a home inspection contingency so that you have the option to walk away from the sale if the home inspection reveals expensive issues.

A home inspection typically includes the home inspector conducting a thorough visual examination of essential home structures and mechanical components. Afterward, the inspector will provide a home inspection report that relays descriptions of damage or other findings for the homeowner to review.

Home inspectors will examine the following home areas and features:

  • Plumbing

  • Electrical

  • Foundations

  • Roof

  • Windows and doors

  • Overall condition of interior and exterior

  • HVAC systems

  • Attics

  • Basements or crawl spaces

  • Major built-in appliances

Typically, a licensed and certified local home inspector conducts home inspections. Real estate agents often work closely with trusted home inspectors. Licensing requirements vary from state to state for home inspectors, but they must have local certification and valid insurance. Many licensed home inspectors belong to professional associations like the American Society of Home Inspectors.

Typically, the home buyer pays for the inspection by hiring a home inspector. This method helps you make an informed decision about a home’s condition before purchasing it. Home sellers can also conduct their own home inspection to ensure that they are getting the best price for their home and property.

On average, home inspections cost about $350, ranging from $200 to $500, depending on the home’s size, age, and location, plus any specialty inspections required. Additional cost factors include testing for asbestos or conducting thermal imaging tests to find infestations, checking energy efficiency, and looking for structural or electrical problems. If your home is more than 2,000 square feet, you can expect to pay $400 or more.
