Mr. Kissel was on time, knowledgably professional, and well mannered. First he arrived and explained how he would progress through the inspection. He included me every step of the way, taking time to explain and answer any questions I had. I was quite blown away with his level of knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge with me so that I can be a more proficient home owner.  When the inspection was complete he brought in a sample home inspection report and went over the layout and content of the report and explained how to interpret the report. I highly recommend Scott Kissel, Edgewood Home Inspections.

The service was wonderful. He was very responsive from day one. We met with him at the home to follow along with the inspection and he welcomed that. He is very thorough and detailed in his work. Since this is our first home purchase, we are glad he spelled everything out for us so we understood what the situation was with the house. He got our report to us the very next day and that was detailed as well. This was very helpful in being able to go back to the seller and discuss what needs to be repaired. I highly recommend Steve from Edgewood Home Inspections!

I really appreciated Scott's methodical approach towards the inspection (A plan of action to investigate the house in the most efficient way possible, having the necessary tools ready and organized) as well as the time he took to explain aspects of the house to me. And the fire safety advice for if we have kids, that was very useful.
Will highly recommend Scott. Extremely responsive and very professional.

they did a very professional job.looks great.  would use them again. we paid half up front and the other half upon completion. The owner would not accept our final payment until he came out personally to check the work. Shows that he really cares about the kind of work his company performs.

We had a very positive experience with Scott. He was very professional and through with his work. My husband and I are first time home buyers and Scott took extra time to explain all the ins and outs of our new home. He arrived early on the day of the inspection and began working right away. He went above and beyond during the time he was inspecting the house, and the report we recieved was very well written and included everything we needed to know. The report was easy to read and understand, and Scott was available for any questions we had by phone and email.

I made an offer on a home in the Garfield Park area to purchase "as is"  contingent upon the inspection.  I knew I had to find someone that would go through the home with complete attention to detail. I have bought a sold several homes over the years and have learned through the process  what to ask in hiring a home inspector.  After placing a few calls I selected Edgewood Home Inspections and was extremely pleased with the entire process.  From the first phone call to the report being mailed to
me, I felt confident in buying the home "as is".  I knew exactly what I was looking at as far as repairs, what needed to be taken care of
immediately and what needed to be addressed but could wait a while.  The inspection was thorough, complete with a report including detailed descriptions of all areas inspected plus pictures.  The owner, Scott Kissel, was prompt, courteous, professional, detail oriented and very patient with all my questions! I would rate it a highly educational experience as well in learning first hand about the house.  I definitely recommend Edgewood Home Inspections - from start to finish it was an A+++ experience.

It went very orderly and we walked through the house with utter confidence in what we were hearing from Scott. His knowledge of code and such was very enlightening. It took over three hours but his photos and analysis was excellent.

I called Scott at 9:30 and he was able to meet me for my home inspection at 1PM! He went thdrough the house inspecting every aspect and educating me along the way. He made general home maintenance recommendations to keep my future home safe and free from need for major repairs later. His report was more than detailed and organized. I will keep and use this document in the future. When Scott discovered a dangerous electrical problem he did his best to do a temporary fix so the home would be safe for the current owners would be safe in their home and informed them directly as well.
He also focuses on home safety, especially fire safety.
I would recommended him to anyone needing a home inspection.

Scott Kissel, the owner and inspector of Edgewood Home Inspections spoke with me directly to set up a convenient time for the inspection to take place.  I liked the idea of a small owner operated business because I felt it would mean I would get more personalized attention compared to some of the bigger Home Inspection companies that farm out the work to employees.
The first time I called him, he explained to me what he would be doing, and how long it would take, how much it would cost, and invited me to be there and watch the inspection as it took place if I was so inclined.I'm glad I did, because it was both enjoyable and informative to watch Scott work.  He was extremely professional and knowledgeable and I learned a TON about the house I was about to buy.
As a first time home buyer, there were many things about home construction and design that I was completely unaware of.  Scott took time to explain everything that he observed and even had a small handbook with short notes he had prepared and kept on hand with diagrams and descriptions of various building codes and construction methods.  Then he would put what he observed in perspective by explaining what he typically sees in similar houses of the same vintage.  This was very helpful and allowed me to gauge where my house fell in the grand scheme.I was really impressed at how well prepared he was.  He had several bags of tools and safety equipment all neatly and carefully pre-packed in carefully arranged groups depending on what portion of the house they were meant to be used for.
For a relatively small house (1300sq ft), he spent over 4 hours going over every area of the house, including suiting up and heading down into the crawlspace with a flashlight and respirator.  Going over the house  with Scott and learning about details I never would have known made this inspection worth every dime.  Within a few days he sent me a huge comprehensive inspection report complete with pictures and written detail of everything we talked about.  Issues to be addressed were broken up into 3 levels of severity making it easy to decide what HAD to be done and what would increase the value of the property but was not required.
If you have the time to be there in person for an inspection of a property you plan to buy, do it!  Reading a report alone will give just what you need to know, but the peace of mind and tips and tricks Scott will show you as he is inspecting are well worth being there in person.  I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone looking for a top notch home inspector.  If there was an A+ rating I'd be giving him that.
