"We hired A. Bailey concrete to expand our driveway, add a walkway, and pour a basketball court. They were wonderful from beginning to end. Mr. Bailey and his crew were punctual, courteous, hard working, and willing to answer any and all questions that we had. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!"

"We were very pleased with it and it worked out well. They showed up on time and when they said they would. We had no scheduling issues. They spent the whole 6 hours doing the landscaping work."

"

Patio has narrow access to it from driveway - Karl's small Bobcat tractor was able to maneuver in tight spaces. Old concrete was removed, new bed of limestone footing installed, and foam barrier installed against house. They repaired previously unseen void in concrete porch step next to patio. Poured concrete to ensure drainage away from house, used brushed finish. Can't believe how much better it looks now with the new concrete!  Well worth the investment.

"This company did an oustanding job! Our driveway looks absolutely beautiful! The owner was highly responsive and prompt. I talked to him on Thursday and had a brand new driveway on Tuesday. Thank you so very much! Definately worth 5 stars, if not more!"

"The estimate process went smoothly, coming in much below another estimate. Found out later that this company did not measure properly and ended up giving us more for our money than they should have. This worked in our favor but suggests a lack of professionalism. The construction was postpone eight times because of weather and backing up of other jobs, which was understandable. What wasn't understandable was that we had to track them down all the time to find out when they might be coming out, communication was extremely poor with the project manager, between the project manager and the receptionist, etc. etc. We had to go to a lot of trouble to move landscaping etc so knowing when the start was was important to us. This showed a lack of professionalism. The quality of the product was good, some defects here and there we can live with, but when they finished their work they left trash everywhere and did not rope off the driveway to prevent anyone from driving on to it. The owner had to be called and had to fix that."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The average cost to repair an asphalt driveway is around $2,459 to $2,500. However, prices can range from $100 for minor DIY crack filling to over $4,000 for more extensive professional work. Costs are often calculated per foot, with minor repairs costing $1 to $3 per linear foot and heavier damage like potholes, sinking, or crumbling costing $2 to $5 per linear foot. Patching smaller potholes can cost around $2 to $3 per square foot. The final price depends on the severity and extent of the damage, driveway design, local contractor rates, and whether sealing is included. For major repairs, it is recommended to hire a professional, and you may get a better deal by bundling repair and sealing services together.

When comparing installation costs, asphalt is often less expensive upfront than concrete. Asphalt prices typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, while concrete can range from $3 to $18 per square foot. However, long-term costs should also be considered. Concrete driveways generally last longer (up to twice as long) and require less maintenance, which can make them more affordable over their lifespan. While asphalt has a lower installation cost and is easier to repair, it requires more frequent maintenance, such as sealing, which can add up over time. Therefore, while concrete is more expensive initially, its durability may offset the cost in the long run.

Gravel is the cheapest way to extend a driveway. Gravel is an affordable, practical option that’s easy to install and perfect for DIY projects, helping you save on labor costs. It can be quickly spread and leveled to create extra driveway space without heavy preparation. While gravel doesn’t offer the same durability or finished look as concrete or asphalt, its low cost makes it ideal for budget-conscious homeowners who want a functional solution without overspending.

Think of the street as a way to capture all the elements on either side of the road, including the road—a street encompasses the homes or other buildings, the trees, and the road of a given area as defined by the beginning and end of the street on a map. A roadway, however, is the component of the street where cars travel.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
