"I hired EcoChamp to replacement 11 windows and a sliding patio door. Gus was very helpful and educational in the quoting process; he did a great job helping us understand options and price ranges. Pricing was very competitive, especially compared to two other companies on Angie's List. I would highly recommend Ecochamp!"

"My living room has a big window frame (i.e. 6' W x 12' H) with 5 windows. The middle three windows are stationary. The rightmost and leftmost casement windows have broken operators. The windows cannot be open or closed. I made tons of phone calls and 4 in-house estimators to see what can be done to get the problem fixed. All but one told me I have to get new window replacement. Replacement estimates range from $2000 to $4000. John was the only one who told me he can fix the operators without new window replacement. John charged me $200. Now I can open the casement windows without any problem. That's why I recommend John's Window & Door to home owners who want to spend the least amount of money to get their broken windows fixed by a professional."

"We had to replace 3 windows and a huge patio door. The replacements were smooth and we love how easy they are to open/close. We can already feel the difference with our new patio door, and have a nice cozy family room now! Russ was incredibly helpful and accommodating with our timelines. The staff has always been friendly and quick to respond to us. We definitely recommend Chicago Window Guys!"

"Steve's crew was outstanding. Very professional and skilled and it showed in their work. We had a few issues with grids being on windows they shouldn't have been and some confusion around where tempered glass was needed or not however Steve addressed all of it to our satisfaction. I would recommend Premier to anyone looking for replacement windows."

"I highly recommend Windo-Well Cover Co. They were here when they said they would be, came prepared do the job even if it rained, and went above and beyond by cleaning out the window well before installing the cover. I am happy with the look of the cover, but am especially pleased with the strenth and durability of the cover. We will use them again to cover additional window wells."

"This is a first rate business. Damian and entire team was professional, prompt and clean. We were happy to have them work in our new home. When they left it was as if no one had worked here. All materials, debris and tools were removed efficiently and quietly. Communication was perfect. LOVE the new shower doors. I have worked with Meva Glass in the past for my previous property and I highly recommend them."

"I needed Ultimate Remodelers to match existing windows and siding. I also wanted them to do new interior framing in wood. They came several times to match siding, window colors, and stain colors with samples. When the job was done, they cleaned up after themselves, washed the windows, showed us how to use them, and did a great job on the trim. I could not be more pleased."

Customers say: Quick response

"A friend recommended Bob the builder to me. I had several estimates. Their price was right in the same ballpark but they were very professional and explain everything to me what would be done in terms I could understand. I hired them for the work they did siding on my house and my garage and installed two new garage doors. I was beyond thrilled with the end result. I can usually find one or two things wrong when people come out to do work but I seriously could not find any issues and I'm just completely happy with their work and their professionalism"

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Some hardware or specialty window stores in your area may repair damaged screens, but it’s less time-consuming, more convenient, and potentially more affordable to hire a screen repair technician to come to your home to do the work on-site. The screen technician will have the tools and experience to get the work done the same day, and they can inspect other screens while there to help avoid repeat repair costs in the future.

On average, it cost $2,900 to rescreen a patio, porch, or sunroom, with homeowners paying anywhere from $800 to $5,200. The cost to rescreen a porch, patio, or sunroom enclosure depends on the size of the enclosure, the extent of the damage, and the materials used to replace existing screens.

There are different types of screen materials available when purchasing a screen door, but the two main options are fiberglass and aluminum. Fiberglass is lightweight and affordable, but can stretch out, so it needs to be replaced more often. Aluminum has a higher upfront cost, but is more sturdy. Aluminum can be more difficult to install, even if you know how to replace screen door mesh.

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.

Most window screens last for about 10 to 12 years, assuming they are made from quality materials and receive proper care. The lifespan of common materials like fiberglass and aluminum can vary based on weather exposure, as constant sun or harsh winters can accelerate wear and tear. Regular cleaning and basic maintenance can help extend their life. Signs that a screen needs to be replaced include rips, tears, brittle or sagging material, fading, or a bent frame. While small tears can often be repaired, larger areas of damage typically mean it's time to replace the entire screen.
