"Bryan was prompt. I told him that we had never had our Chimney swept in the 20 years we lived here. He examined our chimney and took a photo -- he showed me that the chimney was very clean -- no cleaning was necessary !! I appreciated that ! We have already hired Pratt to rebuild our chimney cap next spring."

"They had to take the chimney down and replace it.  They did a very good job.  They cleaned up after themselves.  They were polite and prompt and seemed to know what they were doing."

"Exceptional work by Erik at a reasonable price. Erik also brought an exposed roof nail to our attention which he fixed, preventing a leak down the road. Honest and experienced. We will be using Chimney Crafters for our chimney maintenance from here on out!"

"They did a nice job. I signed up for their fall chimney sweep coupon. They sent out two guys who were knowledgeable and polite. They inspected the chimney, cleaned it out and sealed the cap in under an hour."

"These guys are really good.  It is hard to find companies where the people actually show up when they say they will and do exactly what they said they would for a fair price.  The crew ran like clockwork.  I dont remember their names but the setup crew came in got the scaffolding up and moved the bricks.  Then tore down the top of the chimney.  Then the mason came in and did his thing for a couple days.  Great guy who took a lot of pride in his work.  Then the setup crew came back and took the equipment down and things were back to normal.   The cleanup was also excellent and the gentleman responsible for keeping the site clean was about as hard working and friendly as they come.  Really a great team and would highly recommend for any chimney repair or masonry work.

"Andy and Arthur both came out, and they were great - very professional, and very warm. My wife noticed a rattling sound outside one of our bedrooms after one of the recent bad storms and we found out that some of our vinyl siding had come loose/bent. We researched and called Nyberg due to all of the positive reviews on Angie's List. When they got on our roof, they noticed it was an easy fix and were able to pop the siding back in without a problem. They walked our entire roof and confirmed there was no additional damage. Andy also pointed out we had a missing vent cap on our roof for our furnace that we should address, and he also popped in and fixed some roof shingles that had come loose near this vent. And they would not take any money for helping us out - no charge!! Who does this any more?? We so appreciate Nyberg, and will most definitely use them and recommend them to others in the future. My parents have an upcoming scheduled job for complete siding replacement already through Nyberg (I didn't tell Andy) - and I now have the utmost confidence that their job will be done right. Thank you, Andy and Arthur!

"Called them to clean and inspect fireplace chimney. Frankie went up on the roof while his assistant cleaned from inside. Frankie took digital photo of crown to show me where it needed repair. Also noticed that the existing cap did not fit tightly and we have had raccoons on our roof. When he inspected the firebox he noticed a hole just above the damper, which he recommended repair because of fire hazard. The whole job took about 45 minutes."

"They did a great job. They solved all the problems I had with the chimney and it’s been working perfectly ever since. They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."

FAQs for chimney cap service projects in Wheeling, IL

Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average. The prices range from about $75 to $1,000, depending on the material, size, any repairs needed, and if your chimney cap requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, copper, or stainless steel. Additional costs may include hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before a cap is installed.

Yes, it’s worth capping a chimney. Here are several reasons to install a chimney cap:

  • Keep out rain, snow, wildlife, and other debris

  • Help prevent chimney fires

  • Reduce your chimney’s exposure to moisture

  • Maintain your chimney flue liner

  • Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature

Typically, a chimney cap will last from three to 25 years. This wide range is due to variables like climate, the material the cap is made from, and how often you use your fireplace. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of your chimney cap.

The best style of chimney cap for a brick chimney is one that fits tightly around the brick top of the chimney. The cap should have a screen to fully enclose it to keep animals out. The best materials include stainless steel, copper, or aluminum that fit tightly or are custom fabricated for a perfect fit on your chimney.
