"Andrew Brown from Alarm Protection Group facilitated the installation of our home security system. He was a very helpful and informative, and was not pushy, as with other ADT sales reps. He followed up with us after the system was installed to see if we had any questions or concerns re the system. I highly recommend Andrew to anyone who is interested in a home security system."

"If you are thinking about getting solar, please stop and listen to my story. I was shopping around for solar companies and I decided to go with a friend of mine, Antoine Chandler (480-586-1802), because I know him and that he has integrity and would look out for my interests. He ran all the numbers to pick out the best system for me and he picked Our World Energy. Iâ m so grateful he did. We had a solar company, install solar for a hot water heater and for a pool pump already (they told us it would be for the whole house during our consultation and found out afterwards that that sales rep had lied. I also expressly told that company that I wanted the solar in the back of the house. They wanted it in the front so people would see it to advertise, and that is where they put it, after they promised me they would put it in the back-another lie.) My SRP bill went down for a little bit after I got the first solar installed, but it went right back up again so I hardly saved any money. When the new incentives came up from the government, I decided to look into solar again, because I knew that I could bring the SRP bill down low enough that I could pay for the solar and still save money with SRP. However, I needed to find a good company that was trustworthy and guaranteed their product. That is why I called Antoine Chandler. He got all my information and came over with a plan. He wanted to make sure that I got enough solar cells to cover all of my needs currently and in the future, while still allowing me to save money every month. He gave me an estimate from Our World Energy and we set a date for installation. When the installation day came, they discovered that there were several problems with my electrical lines that were going to delay the process for a while. Because this possibility was never discussed with me in the estimate, Our World Energy covered the entire cost of upgrading the equipment that we needed. They had to coordinate with the city to be able to work on the electrical lines and, of course, working with the city takes time. They coordinated everything themselves and updated me every step of the way of where we were in the project. Their communication was incredible! Because it took so long to get everything upgraded and set up so we could turn the system on. I wasnâ t saving any money for the first two months, but I had signed with the finance company so they were still charging me. Because they had promised me that I would start saving money from SRP to pay for the solar system every month, and I hadnâ t saved any money because the system couldnâ t be activated yet, they reimbursed me for the solar payment for the first two months! This isnâ t just the best solar company Iâ ve ever worked with; itâ s one of the best companies Iâ ve ever worked with, period. Given what a pain in the neck I know this project has been for them I am doubly impressed with their honesty, their integrity, and their customer service. I would highly, HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone who wants to get solar. They are amazing!"

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install a home security system is about $750. However, the price can range from as little as $200 for a simple wireless camera setup to $2,000 for a fully monitored, hardwired system. A typical price range is $280 to $1,150. Several factors determine the final cost, including the type of system, equipment, materials, labor, activation fees, monthly surveillance fees, and permits. Optional upgrades will also add to the price, such as video surveillance monitoring ($40–$65 per month), smart locks ($150), smart lighting ($15–$90), smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms ($35–$100), and a smart thermostat ($130–$500).

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe, and their security depends on the type and quality of the lock. They cannot be picked like a traditional lock and often include added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, which can make them more secure. However, they are not without risks. Potential vulnerabilities include hacking for Wi-Fi-connected models, battery failure, power outages, and technical malfunctions. To maximize security, it is important to choose a reliable brand, stay on top of software updates, and perform regular maintenance. While the risks are different, keyless locks are not considered more dangerous than traditional locks.

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

With the popularity of DIY security cameras and video surveillance systems, it’s important to understand the benefits and potential drawbacks to decide if it’s the right choice for you. Advantages and disadvantages include:

Pros

  • Video footage readily available

  • Reduced home insurance

  • Save on labor costs by installing security cameras yourself

  • Wireless systems are easy to move and set up

  • Monitor from your smartphone

  • Avoid false alarms

Cons

  • Features may be vulnerable to hackers

  • No direct link to authorities

  • Risk of installing the system improperly, reducing its effectiveness

Yes, there are, and they often come with a screw set to ensure they stay secure. They run on batteries, depend on WiFi, and often require a WiFi extender. These typically cost less than $50. Doorbell cameras like these are great for renters who can't install a wired solution. However, a wired doorbell camera is a better choice for homeowners looking to invest wisely in home security.
