"Kevin, the plumber, was excellent. He explained everything and even went over care for the new pump. He even took away the old pump for recycling. GREAT JOB and the cost was very reasonable. Highly recommend Flo-Maxx!"

"I called A-1 Superior Plumbing and they answered the call. They were able to accommodate my schedule and were out the following day and replaced the ejector pump. My dealings with this company were positive. Joe, who came to my home to do the job, was professional and efficient and I would definitely use them again."

Customers say: True professional

"On Sunday, July 1, the tenant in my rental property informed me of a leak between the 2nd and 3rd floors. This was frustrating because this same leak had supposedly been repaired four days earlier by another plumbing company that, of course I later learned, is closed on Sundays. I had a sense of urgency about the leak because it generated a steady enough flow to require a bucket had the potential to damage the adjacent central air/heating unit (which happened once before when the hot water heater of my upstairs neighbor failed.)
I turned to Angie's List and found Charlie's Plumbing. Not only did the company have Sunday hours, but I was able to reach Charles directly via cell. He was able to fit me into his Sunday schedule (unlike another company I called that claimed to offer 24/7 service, but wanted me to wait until Monday) and quickly fix the problem.
As it turned out, the previous plumber had not fixed the problem correctly: the 3/4-inch pipe they installed was too short. Charles provided me a detailed invoice, which will be helpful in my dispute with the previous plumber.

"Our sump pump died after a day of heavy rain. They came out on a Sat evening and installed a new one. Gave us choices of models and prices. Very easy to work with and reasonable pricing."

"We called Patrick to fix a sewer smell in our basement. After digging out a section of the floor, he found a pipe installed by the previous owner that had never been correctly attached to the sewer main. He and his crew worked on a Friday and Saturday to fix the issue. They jackhammered out the floor, dug up the old pipe and replaced it. Patrick was very attentive and showed me all the steps he was taking, carefully explaining everything that needed to be done. Cleaned up afterward and finished the job without issue. Highly recommended."

"My utility closet was a convoluted mess before the HVAC replacement and by the time these guys were done - it looks like SpaceX came in and cleaned things up. They even did some 'extras' for me included; install W/D replacement vent tubbing, drained the water heater, re-directing a variety of piping - the completed job is, to be it plainly, beautiful"

"Every things that these Plumbers did from greetings/conversation with me to the installion & clean up of my bathroom sink was just awesome. I would highly recommend them. The only negative remark toward Big Wrench Plumbing & Sewer is the Cost/Charge to do this was too high. Don't get me wrong everything else that was say/done to installed was just awesome."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

Sump pumps remove excess water from the lowest point of your home, which prevents flooding. When a sump pit fills with water, a sump pump pushes that water outside of the basin and into an exterior discharge pipe. From there, the water flows away from your home, so it doesn’t damage your foundation.

Costs depend on pump type, labor rates, and the extent of repairs or installation needs.

Thankfully, you do have a few sump pump backup options in case it fails. One option is a battery-powered backup sump pump. Another option is using a portable backup generator as a power supply for your sump pump. Unlike a battery-powered backup which has limited power, a generator can run around the clock for as long as you need it.

Or you can opt for a water-powered backup pump, which uses your home’s water supply as a source of power. However, this may not be the best option if you find your house frequently has low water pressure.
