"Mr. Renshaw arrived on time and did a thorough tuning the piano. Our piano had not been tuned in many years and I was expecting a scolding from the tuner, but Mr. Renshaw was pleasant, positive and did an excellent job. Neither my wife nor I actually play the piano, it is remnant of our children's music lessons. My wife says that it sounds much better. For me, I can accurately be described as tone deaf. We will not hesitate to use Renshaw Music to tune our piano more frequently in the future."

"We had two movers come, they end up being earlier than expected. They were both very friendly, fast, and easy to work with. We only moved about 10 pieces of heavy furniture to move and had no problems.

"Everything went perfect. Fee was right in line with advanced quote received. Movers were professional, courteous and on time. They were efficient in their time (one of the reasons the quote was right on the money). Nothing was broken or damaged in the move. All the necessary pads were provided, they offered us the use of wardrobe boxes, but we didn't require them. I could not have been more pleased and would highly recommend to anyone."

"We are very pleased with Best Cost Movers for their excellent service and low price. We were moving from a 2 BR condo in Geneva to a house in Hinsdale. We found Best Cost Movers from Angie's list and called Eric for appointment. He set up the moving time and also confirmed it by email. On moving day, Santos and Dan were very careful in packing and moving our furniture. They managed to avoid any scratches or dents to the condo and the house. They were very efficient in both moving and driving. We appreciate their effort in making our move a very pleasant experience."

"I love Coffey Bros.! Their reservation process is easy and painless, their crews show up on time, and I've never seen movers work more efficiently, quickly, and at the same time, carefully. Both times I've moved with them they've come in UNDER their estimates for both time and costs. Once, we moved on the coldest day of 2016 (!), and this last time, I ended up moving the day after a snowfall, when it wasn't quite as cold but still was a little challenging. Both times, the crews performed beyond expectations; this last time, my crew chief even had a furniture-finish kit and spent some time patching some scratches and dents in my things. I joked with him that the furniture looked better than it had in the first place! Highly recommended."

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

A reasonable moving budget for local moves is $880 to $2,540 , while you can expect long-distance moves to cost between $2,700 to $10,000 , depending on distance, house size, and other cost factors. You can calculate your relocation budget by totaling the cost of your moving services, such as renting a moving truck, hiring professional movers, and packing services.

Planning ahead is essential—this will give you the chance to coordinate your move during weekends or after business hours, and set up essential services in your new office before moving day to minimize downtime. Start by creating a detailed timeline and checklist for every phase of the move, from packing to unpacking. Inform your employees, clients, and vendors about the move well in advance, including any expected disruptions and how you plan to manage them. Delegate responsibilities to ensure all aspects of the move are covered. Lastly, set up the essentials at the new location first to resume operations quickly.

Deciding whether it's worth it to hire movers depends on your budget, patience, and physical capabilities. It's difficult to gauge the amount of work that moving calls for, and it's easy to be off by about tenfold.

If you're able to call in some favors and round up friends to help, you might get through it just fine, but if you only have a few hands helping, things can quickly get overwhelming. Either way, bringing in the pros will save considerable time and stress, so if it's within your budget, it's a great investment.

To prepare for moving a piano, start by documenting its current condition with photos in case of any damage during the move. Secure the piano's lid and wrap the instrument, including its keys and pedals, with bubble wrap and moving blankets for protection. Note that if you have hired professional piano movers, they may handle this step for you.

Next, prepare the space. Measure any tight spaces or doorways to ensure the piano will fit through. Clear a wide path from the piano's location to the exterior door, removing any furniture or obstacles. It is also helpful to prop open doors to make the exit easier.

On moving day, ensure the moving truck can park as close to the exit as possible. For safety, keep children and pets away from the moving area to prevent accidents or distractions.

Qualified piano movers will take several steps to protect your piano from damage during the move. First, they'll wrap the piano to protect its finish. Ideally, they'll wrap the piano in a specialized blanket that features a soft, padded interior and a tougher exterior.

After wrapping your piano, the movers will securely strap it to a dolly for safe transport to and from the moving truck. Once the piano is in the truck, movers might put the piano on a piece of plywood to help level it during the move, depending on the truck bed. They will then strap it in place so it doesn't shift around during the drive to your final destination.
