"we noticed metal banging outside and determined that the cap was blown loose from the chimney but still hanging there. After reading several reviews of 4 companies listed on Angie's I called and scheduled an appointment with Pratt. Brian came this morning and inspected the chimney for needed repair and estimates. He was able to replace the existing cap and unless there are future occurrences it should not be necessary to replace the existing cap. There was no charge and he is sending me quotes for options on replacing one or both of the existing caps. Thank you Brian for an honest assessment and presenting options. I will definitely return to Pratt when it is necessary."

"One crew went on top of the chimney to inspect the fireplace while the second crew swept inside the fireplace pit (?). They found some cracks in the chimney, which they suggested to repair before using the fireplace for the potential fire hazard. They were courteous and professional. They gave us an estimate for the repair and would have cost 2k or more. Ultimately, we decided to wait on using our fireplace and get more estimates in the future."

"Rob was great he fixed our issue with the Dryer vent and also pointed out an issue with our the furnace and hot water tank venting system that was repaired with metal tapping of the edges without additional charge. He was on time and very nice to work with. Have him coming back to work on the chimney roof vent and give us a quote."

"Great service by a truly professional company, Received a response asap for a rep to visit and assess my needs and an estimate response was received in a few days. A special order for the limestone caps required a couple of weeks and the company lived up to their commitment of contacting upon arrival to schedule installation. The tuckpointing was needed on the 45 year old home and the installation of the stair caps had fixed and enhanced the stairwell."

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.

Professionals use resin fillers, diamond polishing pads, and sealants to restore the surface.

Ongoing maintenance of your leather furniture is the only way to prevent it from peeling and cracking. Real leather will peel and crack as it dries out. Leather conditioners are a great way to protect your leather furniture from drying out, and you’ll need to apply it about twice each year. It’s also a good idea to keep abrasive materials away from your leather to prevent cracking and peeling, including belt buckles, shoes, and multi-surface cleaners, especially those that contain alcohol.

If your drawer slides are made of metal or plastic, it’s best to use white lithium grease to lubricate them. The dense formula of that compound creates long-lasting results and should prevent you from having to re-grease the drawer slides frequently. Test the white lithium grease on a small, less-visible area of the slides first to ensure it doesn’t damage the finish before applying to the entire fixture.

Yes, you can fill rotten wood with expanding foam. You may prefer using an expanding foam treatment instead of wood filler since the latter can take a long time to dry. It may also provide an easier solution when you’re dealing with smaller gaps. If you use expanding foam, allow it to cure for about 24 hours before you sand and prime it.
