"Forest Landscaping is a great family company that runs like a fine tuned engine. Excellent workers who laid sod in my back yard. Professional and a pleasure to work with. Very fair price and great value for the project. You will not be disappointed. Manager Erika is a pro."

"We have a fairly long driveway that needed to be sealcoated for the first time after having it paved with asphalt in the summer of 2022. It's hard to find a reliable paving company, or at least that has been our experience in getting this job finished. So, we checked Better Business Bureau-accredited companies with A+ ratings in the hope that would yield a satisfactory result. DW Paving was the first to respond to our request for a bid, and they were able to fit us into their schedule and get the work completed while the weather was still warm. We are SO thankful that we found DW Paving and are recommending them to our friends and neighbors. Thanks, David! Great work, no hassle, no delay, no runaround, fair price. Everything about this job was first-class."

"I couldn’t be more pleased with the communication, professionalism, and responsiveness. I feel I got a good price. The entire back yard was cleaned up, all old grass and weeds were raked out and removed, sprinklers repaired, top soil and sod laid, rock on both sides of the house were all completed in less than two full days. I had a problem with one of my sprinkler zones and they came back and adjusted that and while doing so found a leak in one of my sprinkler lines. That was fixed and a few pieces of sod replaced for no extra charge. The entire crew was nice and respectful. I would recommend 100%."

"I used to be a contractor and always strived to do top quality work to satisfy myself as well as my clients. Trevor did a great job and paid attention to detail making sure I was satisfied. His concrete finishers really made my RV Parking area and access driveway shine. Several people in my neighborhood have been impressed and asked about who did the work. I recommend him."

"After getting several estimates, I asked Brett to come over to provide an in-person estimate. He sent a very reasonable estimate that included demolition and haul-away of some cement work in my backyard. He also asked if I wanted to add 2 yards (give or take) of large granite rocks along my fence line that I've been wanting to dispose of and be hauled away, for a small additional cost. He showed up on time and made quick work of the cement walkway and the fire pit area, as well as the granite rocks. Brett is a friendly, professional, and he has the skills, knowledge, and the right equipment to get the job done in a timely fashion. He cleaned up whatever mess there was, and it looks great for the next phase of my backyard renovation. I would highly recommend him and his company for any demolition needs. Here are the before and after photo's."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In the United States, roads are usually categorized as one of three types: public roads, other drivable roads, and non-drivable roads. These categories dictate how a road can be used; a non-drivable road might be classified that way because it is heavily damaged and unsafe for cars.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.

The average cost to repair an asphalt driveway is around $2,459 to $2,500. However, prices can range from $100 for minor DIY crack filling to over $4,000 for more extensive professional work. Costs are often calculated per foot, with minor repairs costing $1 to $3 per linear foot and heavier damage like potholes, sinking, or crumbling costing $2 to $5 per linear foot. Patching smaller potholes can cost around $2 to $3 per square foot. The final price depends on the severity and extent of the damage, driveway design, local contractor rates, and whether sealing is included. For major repairs, it is recommended to hire a professional, and you may get a better deal by bundling repair and sealing services together.

Driveways should be sloped with a minimum 2% slope—anything lower will cause precipitation and runoff to collect. A 2% slope is the equivalent of a 2-foot rise over 100 feet. One quick way to check the integrity of your driveway’s slope: no more than four inches of water should collect on the surface longer than 15 minutes after rain.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.
