"We had a tight schedule for the completion of our flooring demo and replacement project. Floor Coverings International was able to work us into their schedule and get the job done within one week of my first phone call to them."

"Wyatt Watts Construction! Wyatt has a very strong work ethic. He shows up on time! He keeps his construction sight clean as he works. He only charges for the hours he works or sticks to the quote he gave us. He made sure we were happy with his craftsmanship. We were so pleased with his work, we trusted him enough to referred him to our Real Estate clients and they were thrilled with his work. He moved to Coeur de Alene and these clientsâ  family is begging him to come back to boise to do a job for them! "I liked the personal touch. The bid process was easy, reasonable, and informative. I liked all the people from meeting the owners in person and the flooring crew. They did a great job, were done in the amount of time predicted on the day they were scheduled and seemed to work well together. I thought they liked working as a team. The floors look stunning!!!"

"We recently had all of our red oak hardwood floors refinished by Chuck Pierce the owner of Great Expectations Flooring. Chucks attention to detail both in his craftsmanship and understanding of what we were looking for was flawless. Upon completion we were stunned at how beautiful our floors looked. We had hired another company to refinish our floors 4 weeks earlier who did such a horrible job refinishing and staining that we had no other choice but to start all over. So, Chuck took on a difficult job. Our floors are beautiful now and he exceeded our expectations."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Contractors commonly install floors before cabinets during a kitchen remodel. It’s the standard option when installing hardwood, vinyl, and tile flooring. Installing flooring first helps prevent height misalignment, ensures a seamless appearance, and saves extra flooring work and costs if you plan to replace or remove any cabinets later.

Laminate flooring is susceptible to expansion and contraction during temperature fluctuations. In the summer, laminate flooring is more likely to expand, possibly giving it a crowned or warped look. In the winter, when temperatures fall, the flooring can contract, revealing gaps between the boards. This is normal and should be expected when you install laminate flooring.

If you also need to know how to fill the gap between the floor and the baseboard, it's best to use a flexible, paintable latex caulk. Clean the area thoroughly to remove dust and debris. Then, apply a smooth bead of caulk along the gap using a caulking gun, and use a caulk-smoothing tool to press and smooth it into place. If the gap is large, you may need to insert backer rod, such as a foam filler, before caulking. Once dry, paint the caulk to match the baseboard for a clean, seamless look.

Yes, carpet tiles are easy to install—even if you don’t have much DIY experience. In fact, the simple installation process is one of the main reasons that people choose carpet tiles over traditional carpet. Since carpet tiles come in individual squares, they aren’t as heavy or awkward to install as regular carpet. Plus, you don’t need specialized equipment (like knee kickers or carpet stretchers) when installing carpet tiles.

To clean a subfloor after removing carpet, start by removing any leftover debris, such as stuck-on underlay, nails, or staples. Next, thoroughly vacuum the subfloor to eliminate dust, dirt, and loose particles. If adhesive residue remains, you can use an adhesive remover, a scraper, or a sander to gently lift it off. Finally, clean the surface by mopping or wiping it down with a damp rag and allow it to dry completely. This preparation is essential for ensuring new flooring adheres properly and to prevent bumps or wrinkles from forming.
