"Excellent job from beginning to end. They laid down 130’ of plywood to run the skid loader from the road to the spot in the backyard. Only one small narrow rut/grass removed in the yard where the skid loader slid a board while turning the corner around the garage. I'd never ever think of complaining about that. Can't even imagine the number of trips made across those boards. 14 ton of dirt and around 4 yards of concrete was moved on those boards. Definitely impressed with over-excavating and compacting rock, great job vibrating the concrete which left very few noticeable air holes and putting on cure-n-seal when not asked. Great job on the finish and they removed the remaining plywood chips with a thatch rake leaving little to no signs they were even here."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

On average, 6 inches of concrete can hold around 150 pounds per square foot, but the exact weight that 6 inches of concrete can hold depends on factors such as the type of concrete, the reinforcement method, soil conditions below, and structural design. If you’re concerned about the longevity of your concrete patio, walkway, or driveway, hire a professional to help you choose an appropriate concrete thickness and reinforcement method for your needs.

Yes, an LVL beam is more affordable than the cost of a steel I-beam, totaling between $50 and $200 per linear foot as opposed to the $100 to $400 per linear foot you’d pay for a steel I-beam. Not only is the wood material more affordable than steel, but it’s also more similar to traditional wooden beams and doesn’t require as much retrofitting to connect joists.

Yes, unresolved damage can decrease property integrity and market value.

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.
