I have a front porch overhang supported on four posts in a concrete stoop that supports a portion of a second story bedroom. One of these posts had rotted with cracking of the concrete around the two front posts. I hired a contractor that I have worked with for years to remove the rotten posts, shore up the porch while the concrete stoop work was done and then secure new posts. This work alone cost $2,000.00. I had hired Kim Brittain to do the concrete work. He seemed knowledgeable as well as fairly priced. He originally was going to put in joints, or relief cuts in the slab as I had previously had, but didn't. Approximately one month later we noticed a crack running from the front door all the way to the end of the stoop and cap. I called Kim, who did come out and look at it and told me I was making a fuss over nothing. Over the next six months to a year I called Kim Brittain, who chose to ignore me. He states it is not structural, but no one else will touch that stoop. (I have tried to hire other contractors to apply pavers, tile, or stain to hide this angled crack) All the other contractors I have had out have said, and quot;what a shame, there should have been some relief cuts.and quot; They do all offer to replace it, but we would be looking at $3,000.00+ to have the porch shored up and posts replaced. Buyer beware!

Mr. Brittain did not timely return phone calls throughout the process. The crew worked quickly. Cosmetically, the work looks great. However, it is difficult to be fully appreciative of the aesthetic quality of the work when one very major issue happened during the work process-a large crack was created between the sidewalk and our basement. This initially resulted in concrete dust going directly into our basement, specifically in and around a basement closet. When we called to inquire about this, Mr. Brittain eventually came out and indicated that there was a minor problem and put in some caulking. However, the problem persisted, with some rain coming in and ruining several items in our basement. Mr. Brittain continued to say it just needed some caulking and applied some more. Due to the drought, we were not able to accurately gauge whether or not the problem was resolved. This spring, we have discovered that the problem is very obviously NOT solved and have had a large amount of water coming into our basement. We called a reputable foundation repair company, and they demonstrated using a flashlight that there was a large crack in the closet ceiling, precisely along the line of one of the cracks of the sidewalk where the work was done. When we called Mr. Brittain to ask him to fix it, he indicated that all it needed was a and quot;thimblefuland quot; of caulking, and then tersely agreed to come look at it- when it stops raining. And the water continues to come into our basement as it has not stopped raining.

Excellent. Finished in 2 days. Contractor discovered a 2nd driveway under the top driveway, which he demolished and removed at no additional charge. My house and driveway are right next to each other, the angles of the concrete, away from the house are perfect so that water runs away from the house.
I have used Brittain and Sons three times and they are a class act.

Removed existing driveway, including portion of sidewalk and apron to street. Replaced all. The price was fair, but not the lowest quote. I was more comfortable with Kim Brittain than the low bidder. He was responsive, although I was in no rush for the job to get completed. We accomodated each others' schedules.

I am very pleased with the work of Brittain and Son. It was hard to get scheduled because he is so busy showing that he does good work. They were at my home for a total of 3.5 days and were very professional in everything they did. The work is top notch and they did a great job cleaning up the job site and backfilling in places where the dirt was disturbed. I would highly recommend them for any concrete needs and actually plan to have them back later this year for more work at my home!

We called Brittain because we had been happy with his father's work a number of years prior at another house. The approach between the driveway and street immediately began to crumble, leaving a ragged edge. I called multiple times over several months and they never returned my call. I eventually gave up and we have just had to ignore that part of it. Too bad, because other than that, we were fairly happy with the work. I probably would have given some A's, but it is hard to do that when the overall experience is spoiled.
