"Believe me, I read tons of reviews for different plumbing co. before hiring GREENLEE Plumbing. (Yes, I'm one of those). Great reviews for Greg and his team. I was able to schedule an appointment for the next day. LOVE THAT since I want everything now. :). The person that answered my call was very personable (all begins with that first phone call, in my opinion). She even provided me with a quote over the phone, which I REALLY appreciate. Most definitely reasonable pricing. Never want cheapest. Greg and his team showed up on time, both times. They installed my toilets quickly. Very knowledgeable. Greg provided great plumbing advice and feedback about the products they were installing, etc. I'm the homeowner that wants to know, asks Q. I've had lots of problems with toilets, including a toilet leak (after being told by ANOTHER plumber that I did NOT have a leak). Months later, discovered tons of black mold, subfloor had to be replaced in the bathroom. Rough. Greg came out a second time to install a vanity but it was also damaged. He did not charge me for coming out. Quite SHOCKING. This was by far the best service received. You just know Greg and his team are experienced, honest, knowledgeable and they REALLY CARE. I felt very comfortable knowing Greenlee knows what they're doing. If you need a plumber, DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL GREENLEE PLUMBING. You won't regret it! THEY WILL BE THE COMPANY YOU KEEP."

"The quote was for $199, and that seemed a little high, but maybe not for Atlanta area. Peach Plumbing was available and came out quickly, which were higher priorities that $$ for me. My plumber was thorough and knowledgeable and he had the job done soon. He also replaced some toilet flappers after explaining why he recommended doing this. Peach Plumbing is tops on my list for a plumbing callback."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

You should replace your toilet at least every 25 years. While toilets are pretty sturdy appliances, they don’t last forever. Even if you aren’t ready to invest in the cost of a bathroom remodel yet, just replacing your toilet will help freshen up your space and keep your bathroom functioning.

After flushing the toilet, you should have about half a tank full of water. While the exact amount of water you’ll have will vary, you want to make sure you have enough to cover the bottom of the bowl and enough to sit above the P-trap drain. While low water in your toilet bowl can indicate a problem, too much water can also be cause for concern.

The cost to install a new toilet typically runs from $225 to $530. This doesn’t include the price of the toilet itself, which can cost $90 to $1,500 depending on the model and features you choose. You can save money if you choose to install a toilet yourself. However, you might want to hire a pro for this project.

"Due to the many complexities of replacing a toilet flange, it is typically a job best left to the pros," says Jeff Botelho, Angi Expert Review Board member and plumber. "Many times it isn't as simple and straightforward as 'pop off the old one and pop on a new one' because the flange is either glued on (PVC/ABS), soldered on (brass/copper), or caulked in place with a lead & oakum joint (cast iron) and none of these things can be easily reversed without years of training and repetitive practice."

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Yes, a toilet, sink, and shower can share the same vent. This is a common plumbing practice that can simplify installation and save space. When sharing a vent, it's important that the toilet is located downstream from all other fixtures. You will also need to ensure the vent pipe is large enough to handle the demands of all connected fixtures without compromising its effectiveness. Because requirements can vary, you should always check your local building and plumbing codes. Consulting a qualified plumber is recommended to ensure the vent is properly sized, installed, and adheres to all local regulations.
