"Atlas tree Service did a terrific job digging a French drain, replacing a dead holly tree, and trimming up a large oak tree for me. The drain is working beautifully and the sod looks beautiful. I would recommend them highly."

"Local Boyz was very responsive, very professional, and submitted a reasonable estimate. Ultimately I went with another contractor whose estimate was somewhat lower, and with whom I had done business in the past. But, while I did not hire Local Boyz for this project, I would be comfortable doing business with them, and will ask them for estimates on future projects."

"Spartan did an outstanding job on our property. We hired them for a full structure demolition and some land clearing/mulching, and they handled everything from start to finish with zero issues. The demo was clean, controlled, and done faster than expected. They showed up with the right equipment, stayed on schedule, and kept the site safe the entire time. What really stood out was how organized they were — no confusion, no delays, just straight execution. After the demo, they handled the mulching and clearing, and the transformation was night and day. The property went from overgrown and unusable to clean, level, and ready for the next phase. Communication was solid throughout the whole process, and pricing was straightforward with no surprises. If you need demolition, land clearing, or mulching work done right, Spartan is the company to call. I’ll definitely be using them again."

"It went great! Contractor (Casey) communicated throughout the whole project. From our initial conversation, Casey accommodated my issue on "outstanding" professional level. I would recommend him to other potential clients."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Concrete blocks are the cheapest way to base a shed. However, the space in between allows critters to go under, burrow, and even damage your shed’s frame. For a more pest-proof option, consider building a shed base with gravel or paver stones. Both options are fairly affordable and easy enough for a DIY project. For gravel, you can build a wooden frame to contain the loose material.

Trenchers can dig holes as narrow as 4 inches or as wide as 4 feet. Check the specifications of the trencher you rent or buy to determine how wide it will cut into the landscape. Better yet, let the excavation company know how wide you’d like the trench to be, and they can help you choose the right trencher for the job (or do it for you).

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.

The rules for trenching and excavation include setting up and following safety protocols, learning how to use tools and machines properly, and ensuring there is a safe exit for all workers. Keep heavy equipment and materials away from the edge of the hole or trench. Call the 811 dig line before starting any excavation or trenching project to ensure you don’t hit any electrical or gas lines.

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.
