Small jobs welcome

"Jim was great! He came to inspect our new house for mold and give advice on cleaning the air. While using his infra red gadget he found several spots throughout our duct work with leaks of cold air. After cutting out a wall to explore we found the main trunk of the duct work was disconnected! We added insulation to all the areas he saw the leaks and now itâ s a brisk 74° in the house! This saved us thousands of dollars because we were ready to get a new AC system!"

"I had an excellent experience with Coastal Air and Plumbing and couldn’t be happier with the plumbing installation. From start to finish, the crew was professional, knowledgeable, and took pride in doing the job right. A special thanks to Vihn, John, Addonis, and Mihn. They were great to work with, answered our questions, kept us informed throughout the installation, and made sure everything was completed properly. I especially appreciated their attention to detail and willingness to explain what they were doing along the way. It’s refreshing to work with a crew that is dependable, respectful, and clearly cares about the quality of their work. I would absolutely recommend Coastal Air and Plumbing to anyone looking for professional plumbing services. Five stars all around!"

"The work they did was great! But I cannot give them 5 stars because of how expensive they were. I have a mini-split and already had it mounted and had an electrician hook everything up. They just had to come out and hook up the AC portion. It took them a little more than 60 minutes and they charged me $1,800. I felt like they had me over a barrel and I said, so, if I do not pay you $1,800, then I cannot use my AC, so what choice do I have? The price seemed extreme. I spoke to my uncle, who is a plumber and had installed mini-splits before (he was actually visiting and on vacation, and he would have done it if he had his equipment), he too thought the price was outrageous considering all of the electrical was already done. If you do not mind paying an arm and a leg, then they really do fine work and the guys that came out were very pleasant. But I felt like they saw that I had no choice and they could charge me whatever they wanted. I know I could have gotten a second quote, and maybe I should have, but I simply wanted to get it hooked up and be done with it. Unfortunately, I have had the same experience with other maintenance/construction type work, where an electrician charged me $600 to install 10 dimmer switches... something I could do myself for $50 in materials and in about an hour... there definitely seems to be something going around where price gouging is the thing right now... not sure... anyhow... that is my review."

"Wow. Talk about responsive and professional. My heat pump fan wasn't working and our Boxers were overheating. I called Williams H and C, talked to a professional  assistant  who relayed the message to Billy Williams. I got a call back in 2 minutes. Billy said he'd be there this afternoon ( I called at 2 pm). Within an hour or so he arrived and fixed the problem right away. He also ran multiple other checks on the system to make sure I was all set to go, pointing out a couple concerns I may have in the future (evap coil rusting out). I will definitely be calling him back in the future when it's time to replace the air blower system. Very Fair and Honest.

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you should hire a professional to carry out services on your HVAC system, as the components are complicated, expensive, and potentially dangerous to work with. However, there are a few things you can do on your own to keep your HVAC system in good condition, including changing your filters every three months, keeping the area around your outdoor condenser clear of debris and plant growth, making sure your or intakes aren’t blocked, and keeping an eye out for increased energy bills, strange noises, and unusual odors related to your equipment.

Yes, you should turn off your AC if it’s leaking. Turning off the system prevents more condensation from leaking and reduces strain on the unit if a damaged internal component or lack of refrigerant is the cause. While this may temporarily stop the leak, water can continue to drip from a thawing coil even after the system is off. As soon as you notice a leak, turn off the unit and investigate the source or call a professional for an inspection.

To find a reputable HVAC company, start by researching providers in your area. Look for companies with mostly positive online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau’s website for customer complaints. Next, verify their credentials. Rule out any companies that aren’t licensed, as this is a requirement in some states and municipalities, and confirm they are insured. Once you have a shortlist, contact each professional to ask key questions: How many years of experience do you have? Do you hold any third-party certifications? Do you have experience working on my specific type of HVAC system or brand? Can you provide references? What is your per-hour pricing? Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings? Do you provide a warranty for your work?

There are many signs of a bad AC fan motor, including if the fan blades don’t spin when the AC kicks on or if they keep spinning when the AC is off. The AC fan cools down the condenser coil, so a faulty motor can also cause the system to overheat. Unusual noises in the exterior AC unit, including grinding or rattling sounds, may also be a sign that the AC fan motor is worn out.

Yes. In fact, not only are AC tuneups worth it, but they’re actually necessary to keep your air conditioner in good condition, improve its efficiency, and potentially prevent major damage. Experts recommend getting a tuneup at least once per year. In most cases, you’ll want to schedule it during the spring so that you can address any issues before the hottest months of the year.
