"Everything went well. Elcon Electric was very efficient in calling me back to schedule the appointment for the next day. The Electrician arrived on time, was knowledgeable and completed the work within 1 hr. I would definitely hire them again."

"Gotta love Angie’s List! I googled top rated electrical service companies and sent inquiries to install a generator outlet on my circuit breaker panel. after several days with no response I turned to Angie’s list. Within hours every one of the companies responded. I accepted SWD’s quote and within days the work was completed as promised. Their electrician was on time, extremely knowledgeable as he explained the pros and cons of how to complete the job, and might I add, patient & kind. Bryan took time to speak with my son over the phone as we discussed our options. Before leaving, Bryan made a video to make sure I know how to hook the generator up & use the interlock correctly. As a retired high school teacher, I appreciate honesty, hard work & excellence. I highly recommend SWD."

"I dealt with Bernard. He fixed the wiring in my investment property. It was a mess but he was able to figure it out. He also installed recessed lighting. The whole job took 2 days and I get the price was fair. I was working with Mr. Electric prior to hiring these guys and they spent a day trying to access the situation, cut a hole in my ceiling and said they would come back when I was ready to install my lighting and finish is. They then cancelled 3 appointments the day of each appointment, wasting an excessive amount of my time. And they were paid close to $400 to do no actual work. I m relieved Bernard handled it. Totally recommend!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Before starting electrical work in Stuart, develop a comprehensive project plan with circuit details and load calculations. Confirm your contractor holds a valid state certification, as local competency certificates will not be accepted after July 2025 per the City of Stuart Building Department. Submit all required documents for permit approval, and schedule inspections early. Consider Stuart's rainy season when planning outdoor electrical projects to avoid weather-related delays.

Helpful?

In Stuart, common mistakes include hiring non-certified contractors, neglecting to obtain required electrical permits, and underestimating the home's electrical load. Skipping annual inspections and using materials not approved by the City of Stuart Building Department can lead to safety hazards. To ensure code compliance and safety, always use state-certified electricians, follow permit guidelines, and invest in surge protection and regular panel checks.

Helpful?

Stuart's subtropical climate, especially during the rainy season from May through October, can delay outdoor electrical projects and affect permit inspections. The City of Stuart Building Department recommends scheduling major outdoor work in drier months and using weather-resistant materials. For hurricane preparedness, ensure all outdoor wiring is properly protected and anchored, following Florida Building Code requirements for moisture and wind resistance.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Stuart, copper wiring is preferred for residential safety and longevity, and PVC conduit is recommended for underground or damp locations due to Stuart's humid climate. Metal conduit is ideal for exposed or high-traffic areas. THHN wire and Romex cable are both compliant with the Florida Building Code. Local electrical supply stores can provide materials that meet city inspection standards.

Helpful?

In Stuart, most electrical projects—including panel upgrades, new circuits, or major appliance installations—require an electrical permit from the City of Stuart Building Department. Applications must include detailed load calculations and product specifications, and only state-certified electricians can apply, as required by the Florida Building Code. Minor repairs, like replacing outlets, may be exempt, but always verify with local officials before starting any work.
