"He was very polite and honest. Cleaned up when the job was finished. He had to move a lot of stuff to get to the tank. I told him he could leave it out & I would get my son-in-law to help put it back. He moved everything back into its place. Very pleased customer."

"Lawrence and Nathan did a great job finding my septic tank, as I did not know its location, and it had not been pumped in at least 20 years. They found it, pumped it, put the lid back on and cleaned up the area in less than two hours. Terrific job by them. They worked well as a team with no wasted time."

"I spoke with Sara & Amy regarding the appointment and both were very professional and friendly. Stephen & Eddie arrived early this morning and really put in the effort to make this a good experience for me. They went to a lot of trouble to avoid having to replace the septic tank cover, saving me over $400. Thanks guys!! I would not hesitate to recommend BVD Septic (aka Presto Plumbing)."

"They gave us an estimate, we got a septic permit and then they gave us a proposal/price. We called them on a Friday to ask when they could start working. Sean said they would be out Monday to bring materials and start work on Tuesday. They got a slow start and showed up with the materials on Tuesday and a backhoe on Wednesday and started working on Thursday. The following Monday they had completed most of the work. They installed a new infiltrator 1080 gallon septic tank in the backyard to replace the existing gray water and septic tanks. They did not pump out either tank and broke apart the septic tank to make room for the new tank. They also installed a 540 gallon dosing tank with an alarm and pump. Then, they put an infiltrator drain field in the front yard and ran electrical to the pump. They finished this work on Monday and we didn't hear anything from them. I called the health department on Friday afternoon and was told that Xtreme renovations had just called them and that they would be able to send someone out from the health department on Monday. The work must have passed inspection because someone from Xtreme Renovations came out on Tuesday and they finished covering up the septic tanks, pump and drain field yesterday - Wednesday. During the process of covering up the drain field with sand, they broke our front walkway. When they called Wednesday for the last payment we told them it was broken and they sent someone out the same day to fix it. Start to finish it took them 2 and a half weeks to complete the job."

"I had problems with my septic tank and after calling a few companies, found Grant’s Plumbing. Received a quote that was much more reasonable than the previous company. They got the permits and finished the job quickly. Customer service was great. Glad I found them here on Angi."

Small jobs welcome

"Great service, had just bought my house when this "high pressure" alarm goes off. Call seller's realtor- it's the holding tank. Told her that nothing on disclosure re: septic, she says- not a septic, it's a holding tank. Of course I've got 5 additional family coming in- shall I tell them not to flush?? CCMP to the rescue- offered 2 options. Cheap option- try to fix grinder in there or replace it. Tried the cheap opt but at least it got us thru the holiday."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

With proper maintenance, most types of septic systems—including mound, evapotranspiration, and constructed wetland systems—can last up to 40 years. To keep your system running as long as possible, follow basic septic tank upkeep guidelines, like pumping your septic tank every three to five years and only flushing human waste and toilet paper.

Drilled wells have a pipe sticking up that’s covered in a plastic or metal casing. On the other hand, a dug well will look like a big hole in the ground and is more similar to what you’d see in a fantasy or Western movie. If you want to be sure, contact the city for documentation on your property’s construction and excavation history.

The size of your septic tank plays a role in determining the proper size of the drain or leach field. As a general rule, you should have 1 square foot of drain field size per gallon of septic tank capacity. However, you could install a leach field that’s as much as 2.5 square feet per gallon of septic tank capacity. Most professionals determine the right septic tank size and drain field size by the number of bedrooms in the house. A three-bedroom house needs a minimum 1,000-gallon septic tank, for example.

Septic tank odors can happen because of a few different issues with your septic system, such as a full tank, clogged drains, or blocked venting systems. Not only is a smelly septic tank pretty unpleasant, but it can also pose a potential hazard to yourself and your home. Toxic fumes could be hanging around, or untreated wastewater could be harming the environment.

The purpose of a septic tank is to allow solid wastes to separate out of the wastewater using time, gravity, and other natural biological processes. If your septic tank is too small, it might be overwhelmed by solid waste and unable to accomplish this task—and if it’s far too large, there won’t be enough liquid in the tank to nurture the necessary bacteria to aid in the breakdown process.
