"This is who you want to hire for drywall repair and interior painting. Prompt inspection and a fair quote, started work right away. Dany and his team were thorough and neat, with attention to detail and did a great job of matching paint colors and textures. Highly recommend."

"New Leaf Painting did a fantastic job painting the exterior of our house. The foreman Jake was determined to deliver a high quality job. When the stucco bottom of our home was not taking the paint correctly, he gave it 3 coats to make it right. We have a 2 story that required a lot of work, 2 colors + trim. They paid great attention to detail and kept me updated on everything as they went. I would highly recommend them for quality work."

"They were by far the best painters Iâ ve ever used! You will not be sorry. They painted approximately 1,400 sq ft with some very high ceilings including a stairwell in two days. There was no mess or clean up for me to do. I would definitely hire them again!"

"We hired Felipe and his crew to scrape/retexture and paint our ceilings, paint all interior walls and trim, and paint all the doors. The result is awesome! From the first visit to measure rooms and collect information, all the way to the finish, Felipe was clear and concise and there were no surprises in terms of cost or quality of work. The work was all done in a very professional manner, and we are very pleased with the results. The only thing keeping me from giving all 5.0 marks is that the painting was finished one day later than promised."

"Doug Schenck is a hard working professional who was very helpful for the second small job we needed painted - the wood trim and ceiling of our screened porch. He previously painted our interior baseboards as I have reviewed already. He is polite, efficient and was able to get the porch job done well and timely. He came exactly when he scheduled the work with us and verified ahead of time to confirm the dates. The porch looks great! He cleaned everything first, patched up some caulking, and painted carefully, cleaned everything up and replaced the furniture. We are so grateful that Doug was able to do our small jobs for a reasonable price and that we found him on Home Advisor!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Preparation includes cleaning the fence, sanding any rough areas, applying a primer if necessary, and ensuring dry weather for application.

DIY is possible with proper tools and knowledge, but professionals can ensure even application and high-quality results, saving time and hassle.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.
