"Disciple Masonry did a fantastic job replacing my worm bricks and pointing other bricks on my home. Nathan thoroughly explained the entire process and completion so I fully understood. The job was done meticulously and the end result truly matched the new bricks with the older bricks exactly the way I wanted them to. Thanks again Nathan! I would recommend Disciple Masonry for all of your masonry needs."

"We could not be happier with the stamped concrete walkway Mike and his team did for our new home construction. It was done in a week, with center plank pattern and a darker stamped stone border on a gently curving footpath. Highly recommend Mike for stamped concrete work."

"Service was great from sales, to installation, to post installation support. Very responsive, very professional. It's hard to find in this 'space'--there are a lot of shady people in basement water damage/repair, and this place exceeded expectations. We've had our repair in place for 4+ years, with only 1 small issue on a wall seam crack, and that was fixed within 24 hours of reporting the issue. Stand up place! Thank you for such great service and support."

"I needed a landing from my patio to my yard. I hated having to always walk on grass so I wanted a concrete landing or some type of design. So AG construction created concrete steps leading to a slab. In the future an added gazebo or playground would bring the look together. It looks much better than it did in my opinion."

"Great job by Joe and his sons from Pellicore Concrete. They did a great job for me with a concrete patio at the back of my house. Completed the job in a short period of time without rushing. Very satisfied, Joe was very helpful and I would not hesitate to use them again in the future."

"Santos repaired brickwork on steps and porch foundation; also repaired and painted attic windows and a decorative window on an upper floor. He had to come back to complete the work (because of weather) and he did that promptly. His fee was very reasonable."

"Working with Jean (The Driveway Lady) and her husband George was a great experience. They were very caring and patient with all of my questions and managed the multiple permits required by my township. There was always one of them on the job to supervise and they left the property spotless. The driveway looks great. As I said, there was a good deal of grading to be done, but now I can turn around in my driveway and not back out into a very crowded cul de sac. I would definitely use them again and am happy with the work."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

The cost to install or replace brick or stone siding generally ranges from $10 to $50 per square foot. The final price depends on several factors, including the specific material type, local labor rates, and any necessary preparation work, such as removing old siding. For example, different types of stone have varying costs per square foot: natural stone ($4.50–$35), stone veneer ($11–$13), faux stone ($6–$9), and cultured or manufactured stone ($5–$8).

Cobblestone fell out of favor with the advent of motor vehicles. Asphalt and concrete are both much smoother surfaces allowing for a smoother ride. Asphalt is also much cheaper, especially for driveways. However, we didn’t stop using cobblestone altogether, and you can still see it as a decorative option in both homes, in parks, and in pedestrianized areas of cities.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.

Not all cracks in brick indicate foundation problems. For instance, small hairline cracks can occur as a new construction settles. However, larger cracks are often a sign of a more severe issue. Indicators of a potential foundation problem include long horizontal cracks, "stair-step" cracks, vertical cracks that appear indoors, or any crack that widens at the top. Other signs of structural damage to look for are uneven floors and doors or windows that stick. These issues could be caused by problems with the soil beneath the home or an overgrown tree.
