"I had an excellent experience with Disciple Masonry. Pat and his crew showed up promptly and did beautiful work. I needed a lot of different types of masonry work done, and they handled it professionally. I can fully recommend them."

"We could not be happier with the stamped concrete walkway Mike and his team did for our new home construction. It was done in a week, with center plank pattern and a darker stamped stone border on a gently curving footpath. Highly recommend Mike for stamped concrete work."

"Bricks were great, however there was also another contractor who said we had an appointment with them on Friday. A lot of confusion went on. We were very satisfied with Brick."

"We are currently happy with the basement waterproofing and remodeling that was completed! There were issues - most minor but we haven't anything to compare as this was the first-time having contractors complete basement work for us; and our home is almost 100 years old. They were flexible given unexpected issues that came about with the basement. The water proofing was done first and they did a great job. They were happy to review and resolve any remaining questions/concerns and/or issues. Jorge in the service dept. is professional, punctual and is a great representative and asset for this company."

"Santos repaired brickwork on steps and porch foundation; also repaired and painted attic windows and a decorative window on an upper floor. He had to come back to complete the work (because of weather) and he did that promptly. His fee was very reasonable."

"Great job by Joe and his sons from Pellicore Concrete. They did a great job for me with a concrete patio at the back of my house. Completed the job in a short period of time without rushing. Very satisfied, Joe was very helpful and I would not hesitate to use them again in the future."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In Newark, foundations are especially vulnerable to cracking from the region’s clay soils and freeze-thaw cycles. Chimneys and brick facades often need repointing due to Delaware’s humidity and seasonal storms. Walkways and retaining walls can deteriorate from road salt and tree roots common in Newark neighborhoods. Regularly inspecting these areas helps catch issues early and keeps your home’s masonry in top shape.

Helpful?

Newark homeowners can choose eco-friendly masonry options like reclaimed brick, recycled concrete, or locally quarried stone to reduce environmental impact. Insulated concrete forms and energy-efficient mortars help improve your home’s thermal performance. Permeable pavers are ideal for managing rainwater runoff in Newark’s climate. Many local masons are familiar with sustainable practices, so you can request materials and techniques that support both durability and energy savings.

Helpful?

When tackling masonry work in Newark, DE, always wear safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots to protect against flying debris and heavy materials. Use stable scaffolding for work above ground level and check for secure footing, especially after rain or snow. Be mindful of Newark’s changing weather, as sudden temperature drops can affect mortar curing. Ensure good ventilation when using sealers or adhesives, and keep your workspace tidy to avoid tripping hazards.

Helpful?

For masonry work in Newark, look for contractors with experience handling local soil conditions and historic brickwork. Verify they have proper insurance and a portfolio of completed Newark projects. Ask for written estimates and references from other Newark homeowners. Prioritize clear communication and detailed contracts, as Newark’s climate and older homes often require specialized skills for lasting brick repair or stonework.

Helpful?

If you spot small cracks or loose mortar in your Newark home, gently clean the area with a soft brush and mild soap. You can use masonry caulk for hairline cracks and carefully remove weeds from joints. Make sure downspouts direct water away from masonry surfaces to prevent further damage. For larger cracks, leaning walls, or any work above ground level, it’s safest to call a Newark masonry professional.
