"We are currently happy with the basement waterproofing and remodeling that was completed! There were issues - most minor but we haven't anything to compare as this was the first-time having contractors complete basement work for us; and our home is almost 100 years old. They were flexible given unexpected issues that came about with the basement. The water proofing was done first and they did a great job. They were happy to review and resolve any remaining questions/concerns and/or issues. Jorge in the service dept. is professional, punctual and is a great representative and asset for this company."

"The replacement of my retaining wall project went very well. I had a wood retaining wall removed and a stone wall built in its place with new landscaping above it. I could tell from the start, this was a very experienced, knowledgeable, and organized company. From initial conversations with Cody, to direct contact with the owner Pierce, to the mason expert Curtis, and detail oriented worker John, they completely made me feel at ease throughout the whole process. Project kicked off earlier than expected and finished a day sooner. I absolutely love the results of my new retaining wall!"

"Their workers did a very nice job on the property. They put in a deep trench system in the corner of our basement and it took care of the water problem. They cleaned up after themselves and left our home in better shape than they found it. I would certainly use them again."

"Premier Pointing did an outstanding job on repointing several areas of two retaining walls and sealing cracks in the driveway. The concrete matched the existing mortar, so that it does not look like it was repaired. They took the time out to do it right. Not only did they do a great job, they were professional, and courteous."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In Wilmington, unexpected costs for masonry work often include permit fees, especially in historic neighborhoods, and extra charges for matching older brick or stonework. Moisture issues from the local water table may require additional waterproofing. You might also encounter fees for debris removal, winter weather delays, utility markings, or parking permits, particularly in densely populated areas or older districts.

Helpful?

To make masonry work safer for families in Wilmington, use sturdy temporary fencing to block off the work zone, especially since brick dust and stone debris are common. Store all masonry tools and chemicals out of reach, and keep pets indoors during active work. Wilmington’s humid climate can increase dust, so run HEPA filters and cover outdoor pet bowls to prevent contamination.

Helpful?

For minor masonry repairs in Wilmington, you can gently clean brickwork with a soft brush to remove surface stains or efflorescence, and use a masonry sealant for tiny cracks. Avoid tackling repairs after heavy rain, as moisture can worsen damage. If you spot crumbling mortar, bulging walls, or large cracks, stop and consult a local masonry restoration expert for a full evaluation.

Helpful?

In Wilmington, repair is usually more cost-effective than replacement for issues like brick repointing, chimney cracks, or stonework damage, especially in historic homes where matching original materials is important. Wilmington’s older housing stock often benefits from masonry restoration rather than full replacement, unless there’s significant structural damage or repairs are no longer feasible due to extensive deterioration.

Helpful?

In Wilmington, you’ll find general masonry contractors for brick, block, and stonework, as well as specialists in chimney repair, masonry restoration, and concrete flatwork. Restoration contractors are especially valuable for historic homes common in the area. For minor brick repair, a skilled handyperson may suffice. Always verify that your contractor is insured and experienced with Wilmington’s unique building styles.
