"Sydney and the rest of the crew were great to work with and did a great job. We had custom shelving installed in two closets with bifold doors installed on one of them. Other closet companies said they couldn’t do the closets exactly like we wanted and also said they wouldn’t put on a door. Sydney was 100% on board with our vision. He worked with us in terms of our budget and was very responsive throughout. The crew did a great job with the custom cuts, installation, and clean up. And they were fast and efficient, too."

"Justin was a great contractor; he was very responsive to emails and provided some great suggestions when considering ways to brighten up my  bathroom.  He and his associate did quality work at reasonable prices.  I would definitely recommend Adam Contracting.

"Thomas M was an excellent technician and did great work fixing all the basement windows around the house. These windows are difficult to find a replacement but he was able to repair and repaint them. The other technician was Pablo He worked on caulking all the windows around the house and he did some filling work on the garage sliding doors You did a good job, but Pablo left his trash around and didn’t pick up after himself so Thomas M and I did that on the third day. It took three days total, but it was two men for two days and one man for a 3/4 of a day actually. Although I’ll probably get charged for a full day, since it went past noon. The labor portion is the most expensive and a little higher than I initially anticipated. So, I was hoping for a quicker turnaround, but overall quality work was completed. I would highly recommend Thomas M as a technician to do future work. He’s very knowledgeable, friendly and does a great job. I would hire again but include more details in the contract language."

"General Remodeling refurbished our entire SFH in Chevy Chase, including over 20 new windows, an addition, a basement and landscaping. I have worked with contractors before and I can state with some confidence that their standard of work is first-class. Despite the difficulties of a young family living through a major remodeling, they were a pleasure to have around. Vidas, the project manager, is attentive to detail, always available to solve problems, and knowledgeable about his profession. Our project has been in very safe hands. Highly recommended."

"Fixing horrible construction work on a 5yrs old bd from ''develoer' AX Builders. Tye fronf panel were built without sealant around windows and without screws. The warping panels caused water intrusion into the house when it rains. Gomez Construction crew were knowledgeable, accountable, accommodating to work with during the week long project."

"The crew from Chevy Chase Remodeling did an excellent job replacing my damaged kitchen ceiling, cabinets and counters. The crew was dependable, professional and courteous. They made adjustments for small space misalignments that had not been foreseen, followed through on punch list items and kept costs within the exact range of original quotes. They made sure that I was happy with their work, and I was very pleased!"

"Michael Wiggs is a pleasure to work with.  He communicates well with the customer, stays on top of the job, and takes complete responsibility for any errors he or his crew make (which were very few).  He also has a great eye for layout, design, and decorating. His crew members are friendly and polite, and Michael insists that they clean up thoroughly on a daily basis.  He has encylopedic knowledge of all aspects of construction and remodeling and was constantly at the job.  He is also fully concerned with keeping costs under control.

Garages questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you do not need planning permission to change a garage door to a normal door, unless a specific restriction is present on your home’s deed. If you’re changing the door because you are trying to convert the garage into a living space, you will need to work with building control for proper signoffs to ensure your conversion meets all of the necessary construction standards.

The decision on whether a garage or an extra room adds more value depends on several factors, including local market demand, location, and buyer preferences. Generally, added living space is more desirable to most buyers, and the utility of the new space determines its return on investment (ROI). Converting a garage into a livable area like a home office, guest room, or entertainment space can add significant value. An additional bedroom, especially one with a bathroom, will likely add the most value. However, adding a garage may be more valuable in areas with limited parking or harsh climates.

There are several reasons garage door cables can come off multiple times. The most common reason is that the springs have too much or too little tension and require adjusting. Other causes include track alignment issues that keep the door from operating correctly or smoothly. A damaged winding drum or obstructions in the cable's way can also cause it to come loose.

If push comes to shove, and you need to manually open your garage door, then you should be able to do so. To manually open your garage door, first, make sure that the door is in the down position. You’ll need to unlock your garage door opener’s emergency release mechanism, which is typically a red robe that you can find on the carriage. Once you’ve pulled the cord, you can manually lower the door.

If your garage door is stuck in an open position, consider contacting a professional to safely release the opener.

The smallest size a standard 2-car garage can be is 20 feet by 20 feet, so at these dimensions, you could reasonably expect to fit two cars inside. However, it’s going to be a tight fit, especially if you have larger SUVs or pickup trucks. For smaller cars, 20 x 20 should be plenty for parking and some space to maneuver around the cars. A larger garage size would be better to ensure you have room to open the doors and transport groceries or other items around the cars.
