"We just moved into our house on June 1, and a few days later we had some strong downpours and our basement flooded! It turns out there was a sump pump which had been installed by CT Basement Systems a couple of years earlier. However, it was pumping the water into a gutter drain next to the house. This gutter drain was clogged, and the water was rising out of the ground and pouring into a window well, and from the well back into the basement!
Danny from CBS came out, and suggested putting in a perimeter system around that part of the house, which would have cost about $1800. I thought about it a few days, and figured that a better thing to do was to lead the water from the sump and gutters away from the house. So I had Danny come back and told him my idea, and he thought it would work. A month later he came back and installed the 4" drainage pipe and hooked in the sump and two gutters for a cost of $600.
It's almost a year later, and it's worked perfectly so far. We've had many days of heavy rain, and the sump pumps that water into the new drainage, and the water emerges at the end of the drainage pipe near the border of our property. Not a drop in our basement! I'm glad I thought of this solution - I guess I can't blame CBS for suggesting the more expensive solution.

"Michael was quick to respond, was able to assess the issue, propose a solution and do the work on the spot. Fair pricing, good work. He and his partner installed a new external hose bibb in a difficult to access spot. They had to pull up carpet and cut into the sub-flooring to access the 12 inch clearing to remove broken pipe pieces from the inside, but they did a great job and put everything back the way it was. Works as expected. Would recommend."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

A plumber can get to the bottom of your smelly drain and clean it with specialized jets, hoses, and drain-safe cleaning solutions. It is also smart to call in a plumber if you suspect your drain smell is coming from a stubborn clog or even a leaky pipe.

Anything you drop down your sink runs the risk of damaging and clogging your pipes. Hair, bits of food, and other debris can catch on the item and build up over time, causing a clog. Even if it’s not valuable, it’s definitely worth trying to retrieve the item, or at the very least, asking a pro for specific advice.

A clogged sewer line is not typically covered by homeowner’s insurance, though some sewer line issues are covered. For instance, damage related to a fallen tree is usually covered. Though sewer line replacement is not covered in a standard insurance policy, some companies offer add-ons for this purpose. Read the fine print before spending your own money.

A bit of water in the bowl can help unclog a toilet, especially if you're using a plunger. However, if the bowl is full to the brim, you'll need to strap on gloves and remove some of the wastewater in a cup or container so it doesn't overflow when you try to unblock the pipe. If you're concerned about it filling further, manually close the flapper in the toilet tank or turn off the water supply to the toilet.

Although linear drains allow water to flow quickly and efficiently, they tend to clog more easily than traditional drains. Linear drains are flush with the shower floor, allowing soap scum and hair to potentially build up. They’re also longer than other drains, allowing for more space to let debris fall into the drainpipe.
