"Tony booked a 2 hour window and told me he would be working about 15 miles away. We agreed he would call me as he was leaving that job so I could leave work and meet him. They called when they were leaving the job, and arrive at my home about 5 minutes after I did. Right in the middle of his 2 hour window. He and his partner tested and tried a couple of things before taking apart the valves and discovering they were both not working correctly. They went to White's plumbing (because they ALWAYS have what you need). They were back and completed the installation and clean up very quickly. The entire job took less than 2 hours. The cost was $195 for parts and $211 for the Angie's List deal for 2 hours of labor. I am very happy with the work they did and how pleasant and informative they were during the process.
I would definitely use them again.

"Hillcrest replaced my central air conditioner. Very happy with the work they did. They even painted the cover over the exterior pipes to match my siding. Their price was fair and most importantly they did not try to pressure me into buying stuff I don't need."

Customers say: Quick response

"We bought a 1950s house that needed a lot of updating and Adam and his team were responsible for taking down a wall between the living room and kitchen as well as building custom built ins for the living room and around the fireplace. All of the work was beautifully and expertly done and we have received compliments from everyone who has seen it. Throughout the project, we were consistently impressed by his attention to detail and his knowledge of what would and would not work. He went above and beyond ensuring our project was his focus and even coming by on weekends as needed. Unprompted he even acted as general contractor to other work going on prior to our moving in. We hope to use him for additional projects and would highly recommend him for any project."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Building permits serve a few purposes, the most important of which is to keep you and the people around you safe by ensuring your contractor does work safely and to code. Permits also help your municipality tax your property appropriately, as taxes are based on land improvements and the upgrades you make to your home. Finally, permits ensure your project won’t have a negative impact on the environment or your neighbors.

You don’t have to commit to a complete home renovation to age in place comfortably—those can get pricey. Instead, focus on a few impactful changes. Consider adding a stair lift or installing ramps to eliminate barriers. Upgrading to non-slip flooring can prevent falls while adding brighter lighting can improve visibility throughout your home. These thoughtful updates can make your home much easier to navigate and enhance your comfort and safety without the stress and cost of a complete overhaul.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.

It usually takes around four to six months to build and install a modular home, although your timeline could go up to around eight months if there are delays in the manufacturing or permitting process. Heavy site preparation and foundation pouring can extend that timeline if you need them, as can customizations you want for your modular home. Your modular home company should be able to provide an estimate for the construction timeline before you sign any contracts or agree to any work.

Hiring a professional to do a loft conversion will certainly speed up the process. The construction steps required to change the slope of the roof can be quite difficult to do as a DIY job. Should the project run into any snags, like rot in the joists, frayed wiring, or roof leaks, hiring a local home remodeling professional makes it far easier to handle these issues safely.
