"Brian was awesome when it came to tackling our list of things that needed fixing/installing around our house. He was very professional, taking his time beforehand to ask the right questions about our projects, and giving his informed opinions on the best way to execute it. On his appointed days, he came in & got the job done quickly and expertly. His work looks great & we'd definitely hire him again!"

"Agile Construction was very professional. They asked what needed to get done and then came in and executed it flawlessly. They were able to answer my questions and explained the work and their methodology. They came to repair my window sill. And it looks way better than before."

"I cannot speak highly enough of Tom and Brad Green of Colonial Restorations. We have lived in our antique house for 16 years now, and like most old homes, some of its previous repairs were good, some not so good. Tom Green worked on this house for its previous owners, and his work was, by far, the best in the house. So, we continued to use Colonial - Tom, then Tom and Brad - as we learned the ropes about caring for an old house - our first house, old or new. Over the years, they have replaced sills and posts and beams, and rebuilt parts of our loose stone foundation. Most recently, they replaced the last original posts in our basement, (one of which was a tree trunk still with bark on it), including pouring new custom footings, in advance of our finally cementing the dirt floor. The work here is never easy - nothing is level, nothing is square - but the Greens' end result has always been beautiful - strong and made to last. Their prices are fair and without hidden costs....maybe not the lowest bid you might get, but you know it's a real bid that they will stand behind. They triage projects for us, giving us an idea of what other items will likely need attention in the next few years. We're not done with this house yet....we've never won the lottery, and there's always another repair..... and plan to use them again soon. I feel confident knowing that the next owners of this house, whoever they might be, will see the quality of the work and know that we cared enough to have the right people help us with the ongoing repair and maintenance of a 275+ year old house. I am a real person, a real customer, with no ties to the company, and was more than happy to write this review."

"We hired Brian last year to refinish our master bathroom when we called him to have our roof and gutters done. A friend of mine had referred me to his services because of the work he had done on his roof and his brother and father’s roof (refer to my other review for his roofing work). The work he did on our bathroom really turned out great! See Photos! He asked us how long we were planning on living in our home and recommended going more high end since we plan on living in our home well hopefully forever. Rather than going with lower quality big box products, we went with higher end faucets, toilets, granite, tile...that come at a higher pricetag but should last a long time. We ended up going over-budget on our allowances but we figured we would only be redoing it once. Our granite really broke the budget but it's definitely the centerpiece of the bathroom and is really beautiful. We added a fan-tech ventilation system to our bathrooms which is a really nice unit. We have 3 vents in our main master bathroom and 1 vent in the spare bathroom. Brian recommended it and it works great! No steam build-up in either bathroom and it’s super quiet because the motor is mounted in the attic. It wasn’t cheap but I think it will help keep our bathroom clear of mildew or mold. Oh and he didn’t just vent everything into the attic. He spent extra time up on the latter cutting out an exhaust port on the side of the house. Brian really does nice work and I felt like he doesn’t take any shortcuts or skimp on materials. He wants things done correctly and in a way that his work is gonna last. I felt like any overages were reasonable, necessary, and not excessive. When he pulled the old shower out, there was considerable water damage to the subfloor that he recommended fixing. We even had him accomplish a few side jobs while he was working here. We had a wooden loft in my garage that I kept hitting my head on and he helped me raise it up. Our central vac system clogged up and he helped me clear it with my shop vac. He also mounted my tv antenna in the attic and snaked a cable wire into the basement. I had bought some tv cable and he told me to return bc he had a whole roll of it from some previous work. We would have had him redo our kitchen and laundry room but we were short of money to do everything that we wanted. One complaint was that he misquoted us for the shower door that turned out to be double the price of the quote. He could have just recommended putting a cheaper shower door on but I think he didn’t want to cheapen the job with a crappy door. I felt like it was just an honest mistake while looking for prices and probably more of a result of a misleading sale advertisement at one of the big box stores. He ended up working really hard putting in the shower door to make up for the error rather than making us pay the glass company $1000+ they wanted to install it. Everything Brian does seems to be well thought out. He doesn’t rush the project at all and works with you to really make everything custom. He spent considerable time working out the new angles on the tub/toilet area which really turned out nice! We really love the bevel that he put into the wall and the angle of the tub box. The molding on the shower piers really turned out nice. He spent some serious time on the position of the lights and mirrors over the cabinets to get them just right and even had to redo it once because my wife wasn't happy with how the spacing looked. He made sure the height of our shower was just right because I’m pretty tall and need to have my faucet up high. He’s also a big fan of lighting which my wife and I share his enthusiasm for! Our bathroom went from a very dark looking old bathroom to almost like a high end operating room! My wife loves the lighting for doing her makeup. Brian could have a second career as a painter because he does a really nice job. I wish i had spent time helping him paint to learn some of his tricks because he’s a really good painter."

"I requested to have the work done before Thanksgiving and we set a tentative date of November 24. I got a call around the 14th to change the date, I was out of town and when I returned I called Mr. Harris. After I refreshed his memory on what I hired him to do he referred to me as "the foyer girl".  Would he call my husband the "foyer boy" if he happened to be speaking to him instead?
We finalized the start date to be the 21st. I rushed home that morning to get a call that his crew would not be able to start that day since another job was not completed. About an hour later I got another call stating his crew couldn't get into the other job so could they come today? I said sure. 45 minutes or so later 2 men show up to do the work. I had to explain what was to be done, showing them the quote. They did not have drop cloths, ladders or patching material or tools. Thankfully I was providing the paint so they could start with cutting in. I also provided the paper towels for them to wipe up drips.  They were quiet and polite and seemed focused on the job at hand.
When they left I asked when they would be back and was told Tuesday, if that changes I'd get a call.
When I returned home Monday morning I found someone in my driveway waiting to get started. I had no idea he was going to show up. This was  a new guy who had to be instructed on what to do. He was given wrong information from Mr. Harris so again I had to pull out the quote and explain what areas are to be painted, and not painted. (He was told to paint doors in addition to trim and walls)
He had no ladder and borrowed mine.
He talked a lot to me, not about the job, and on his cell phone.  While painting he asked me how to get on the mailing list for Pottery Barn and then proceeded to call them to get their catalog.  ( I had mentioned that PB sometimes has coupon offers for Sherwin Williams paint). To inspire confidence in his work he told me the guys that came on the first day had less than 5 years experience between them.
The material he used to patch the holes in the wall had a  very strong odor, causing a headache. My daughter and I retreated to her room and even though it was cool outside opened a window to get some fresh air. In the future I recommend the staff advise the home owner in advance if such an odorous product is used. There are plenty of patching products available that do give off such a strong odor.
The first guys left a clean edge of the  upstairs wall, the guy with lots of experience painted over the edge and left a partially painted area. Since he  also had to use my ladder which was not meant to be propped up on stairs to reach high areas, he used some dirty patio pavers that were in my yard as weights , directly on the stair carpeting.  I asked him to use a rag under them and he did.
While he was cleaning up Mr Harris called  me to get in touch with his worker, while I was making dinner, tending to the dog and my daughter. We talked for awhile and he asked how I would rate the work on Angie's List. I felt cornered and explained I felt like I was being charged for a premium- he responded that his painters are professional and paid well.
Over the days following the completion of work I noticed several areas of the walls were not completely painted, there was paint on my handrails and some splotches on the  hard wood floors.
In summary, Mr Harris is unprofessional and over books jobs, his workers are average.   I had high expectations believing that you get what you pay for. I considered asking them to come back to touch up the areas missed, but honestly don't want to have any more to do with them.

The wails were eggshell white and the paint that was used was light gray, so I am can easily see the paints splatters and hits on the wood finish hand rails. They were not there before the job was started."
This house had asbestos tile to be removed, rotted clapboard to be removed, several framing and insulation repairs, and reproduction moulding created on site and installed.

"Fantastically well. Excellent advice on necessary materials and timeline for the work. Skilled, knowledgeable, and professional. Was able to adapt to unexpected situation when the floor needed to be bolstered unexpectedly without significantly adding to the project timeline. Made valuable suggestions addressing the cost of different options and the available budget, so the final product was within my cost range, but if higher quality than I thought we could afford. Would absolutely hire again."

FAQs for pole barn building projects in Canton, CT

Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.

General contractors are the ones that coordinate home construction projects. They are in charge of the day-to-day oversight of the subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and to resolve problems as they arise. General contractors:

  • Complete pre-construction planning, both with the customer and crew

  • Provide realistic cost estimates

  • Develop construction timelines

  • Ensure deadlines are met

  • Acquire permits as needed

  • Purchase supplies and materials

While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
