"I had no heat during the coldest times in colorado springs. I finally returned sandy's call and I thought they couldn't help me because i needed HVAC not my ducts cleaned. She quickly suggested that Kyle can take a look and give me an honest assessment(since i was really concerned over the estimate the previous company gave me, and they never followed up...it was 36 degrees in my office!)anyway, i was so pleased that kyle right away, got my heat going temporarily while he had to get a part ordered. and then was up on my roof in sub zero weather and replaced that part. I am up and running and my patients are warm! there are other maintenance things left to be done, but I am super pleased with the work and the customer service. I love working with small businesses they really care about their customers satisfaction. Kyle, I want to hire you on as my regular maintenance guy! thank you sandy for your persistence to reach out to me! no regrets!"

"Keegan did an absolute amazing job. Not only was he extremely friendly, he was very knowledgeable and answered every question or concern that we had. He also provided great insight into what would best suit our needs without hassling us towards any specific item. During the installation, he was quick, efficient and polite while also considerate and flexible. Without a doubt the best service I could have asked for and everything came in at a very reasonable price. Will continue to work with him and his company for any future HVAC needs."

"Gold Star showed up to my house within 24 hours of me calling, even though it wasn’t an “emergency” call. They were great! Quickly found the problem and, most importantly, found the solution! I rarely call people for work and I have never called anyone for my HVAC but this time the problem was about my pay grade! I now have their contact info saved in my phone and will use them for all of my HVAC in the future! Thanks guys!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, or ASHRAE, sets the standard guidelines for air changes per hour in homes and businesses. The International Residential Code, or IRC, also sets ACH requirements for residences and bases those requirements off of ASHRAE standards plus climate specifics related to your location.

When deciding whether to repair or replace your air conditioner, several factors should be considered. It is generally worth repairing the unit if it's less than 10 years old, the warranty is still active, and you're dealing with a one-off issue. Most central AC units last about 15 years, while window units last 8 to 10 years. If your unit is approaching or has surpassed the 10-year mark and requires frequent or costly repairs (e.g., over $5,000), replacement is often the more sensible long-term investment. For older, inefficient, or out-of-warranty units experiencing multiple problems, replacing it is typically the better choice.

The cost to repair an air conditioner averages around $350 to $450, but the price can range from $100 to over $3,000. The final cost depends on the type of air conditioner, the extent of the damage, and the specific parts that need replacement. For example, repairing a window AC unit typically costs between $100 and $250, while central air conditioner repairs can range from $300 to $3,000. A simple fix like replacing a dirty filter might only cost $10 to $50, but a major issue like a broken compressor could cost around $2,000 or more, potentially making it more cost-effective to replace the entire system. Due to the need for specialty tools and handling of refrigerants, repairs more complex than changing a filter are best left to a professional.

Yes, scorpions can enter a home through AC vents, especially if the system is not well-sealed. As excellent climbers, they can scale a home's exterior and squeeze through gaps as small as 1/16 of an inch. Scorpions are often attracted to the moisture around air conditioning ducts or seek cooler areas during hot weather, using vents as a pathway inside. They may slip through small openings where the duct meets the vent cover and travel within walls before emerging. To prevent this, inspect your vents, seal any gaps, and consider installing fine mesh screens.

No. Your furnace does not run your air conditioner. Both units use the same system of ductwork to move conditioned air throughout your home, but you can have a furnace without having an air conditioner and vice versa. Furnaces are only for heating your home. You can buy a system that does both, however, like a split system or a heat pump (yes, heat pumps cool, too).
