"Great company for insulation work. Noah came out and sent us an proposal the same day, we accepted it the next, and later the same week the crew came out and did the spray foam for part of the work, and the blown in fiberglass for our attic. Very profession, friendly, and knowledgeable. I recommend this company to anyone looking for insulation work."

"They let us know they were no longer in the gutter business. Called a few days in advance to set up a time to do the insulation. They were late and called at 4:45 in the 3:00-5:00 PM window to tell us their truck broke down and they'd be late. Blew in the insulation but didn't coordinate with the roofer about additional sofit vents or put in baffles where the new vents should be added. It was very difficult to communicate with the workers because only one could speak a little english. If all you need is some insulation blown it this company is OK.

Small jobs welcome

"I needed the attic insulated at the Red Wing Motel as the last two contractors did not do the job as contracted. Dragon's Insulation showed up when they said they would, did the job they said they would do and charged me what was agreed. Integrity, a wonderful way to do business!!!"

Small jobs welcome

"We hired W. F. Gray Insulation for attic insulation. Overall communication was excellent. Frank Gray made a favorable impression from the outset, and was very responsive to subsequent requests to add line items to the quote such as constructing a hinged styrofoam cover for the whole house fan in the attic and being willing to add a plywood walkway, marked overhead on the rafters, so that the attic fan can still be serviced without someone guessing where they could walk in an attic that has 17 inches of insulation covering the rafters. They were very patient as I needed to get electrical upgrades done and run through the attic before the insulation was blown in, and post-COVID supply-chain issues caused delays so that I could not schedule with them until about 6 weeks after receiving the quote. The crew completed the entire job in half a day and were good enough to take old random junk out of the attic that had been left there decades ago by the previous homeowner. Surprisingly, they did not require any deposit up front on a residential job, even with supply-chain constraints raising prices on materials. Frank himself did the work while training assistants rather than delegating everything to someone else. I highly recommend this company."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Through R-value assessments based on climate and existing insulation.

For standard 2x4 walls, the ideal insulation has an R-value between R-13 and R-15. This level of insulation, typically around 3.5 inches thick, fits well within the wall cavity. Common options include fiberglass batts and spray foam. The best choice for your home can depend on your climate; use R-value maps, like those from Energy Star, to determine the recommended level for your region. For colder climates, you might also consider adding exterior insulation for greater efficiency. Always check with your local building codes to ensure you meet any required standards.

No, you shouldn’t wrap a towel, old T-shirt, or other porous fabric around your faucets. These materials absorb water, which can make your faucet more likely to freeze. Instead, you want to use waterproof, insulative covers that can seal tightly around the spigots for the best protection against frozen outdoor faucets and pipes.

According to a report from Energy.gov, radiant barrier installations can save between 5% and 10% on your energy bill each month that your HVAC cooling is in operation. That fact can mean savings of up to more than $325 per year for homes that experience frequent direct sunlight and high summer temperatures.

If the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it will take around six hours for your pipes to freeze—and they might even burst. That’s why keeping your mobile home’s temperature around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary, even if you’re leaving it vacant for the winter. In addition, having ample skirting around the mobile home's underbelly will help keep pipes insulated during the winter.
