"We shared our vision with Mr. Hernandez of transforming our 2500 sq ft grass back yard into a water conserving oasis with new irrigation, drip watering system, rocks, boulders, plants and trees. He and his crew turned our vision into a reality with top notch work, attention to detail, and within our stated budget despite changes we made during the process. Mr. Hernandez was hands on, responsive and attentive to our needs (I'm a paraplegic) and even went with with us to the nursery to find the best plants and trees for our project. We couldn't be more happy!"

"This is the second time I've used Silverback and I'm about to call for a third job. They're fantastic! I had an old shed filled with pesticides and rat poop that I wanted gone. Without me even having to be there, Chris came out, took a look and then called me with an estimate of $450.00. I came home later that day and that longstanding eyesore was gone, the rat pooped cleaned up and the pesticides stored in a box and left for me to dispose of at the next neighborhood hazardous waste drop off day. Another great experience."

"Great job removing large trees and overgrown shrubs and planting new trees. The quotes didn't contain much detail about the work to be performed, but the crews worked quickly and did a professional job for a reasonable cost. They also made significant repairs to the irrigation system. They were supposed to return to add mulch to a large hillside, but never returned. That's okay, since it was an add-on to the original work and wasn't included in the quote."

"Home Advisor referred me to Seth. When we spoke I could tell that he understood the general scope and we set a meeting to check the job. Seth came over looked at the project, finish grading near house and barn. We agreed on the very fair price, and Seth assured me he would get the job done in a day. Seth showed up with his partner, and they went to work. I noted their attention to detail, customer service, and honesty. I appreciated their recommendations for a better result. Perfect team for this project. I am recommending them to family with an acre which needs to be cleared and finished properly. These guys really helped my 1/2 acre home and barn drainage and finish grading. I could sense that they want to do a job right. This is important. I am an experienced tradesman, supervisor, and inspector, and I have no reservations recommending these men to family and friends. Thanks again Seth and Nate. Sincerely, EA"

"When we purchased the house, it was a 30 year old home. Almost everybody in the period of five years to seven years wanted to convert to copper plumbing. So what they offered at that time was anyone you referred to if they chose to use their service, you have $500 cash payment which was really nice because half of our neighbors and our family members used them. I do not know what they do now, but it is a really nice service because they are a very good company. They did a great job."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Downspouts should be buried at least 5 to 10 feet away from your foundation. This can vary depending on your local building codes, soil type, and property slope. The main goal is to ensure water is directed away from your foundation.

Slab foundations are more affordable than crawl spaces because they require minimal excavation, as the slab sits directly on the ground or on footers that only sink a few feet into the ground. Crawl spaces require excavation of the entire footprint of the home to several feet below the surface. Not only does that mean higher labor costs, but more materials are necessary for the concrete foundation walls.

How deep your septic system needs to be into the ground depends on several factors. In extremely cold environments, the tank needs to rest below the maximum frost line, which can be up to six or eight feet deep. The standard burying depth for most systems is between a few inches and four feet below ground level. Depth can also depend on the slope of the landscaping and other property variables.

The best type of soil to build on is a mixture of sand and clay, known as loam soil. Loam soil has the best combination of these soil types to build a foundation on. The clay particles help with water retention, so it won’t erode like sandy soil might, and the sandy particles help with drainage, so you won’t see unsafe soil expansion or have an increased risk of leaks from water sitting against your foundation.

Depending on the severity of the freeze and the method used, thawing frozen underground pipes can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. Applying heat directly to the pipe using heat tape, infrared lamps, or hot water jetting can speed up the process. However, patience and careful monitoring are key to avoiding pipe damage.
