"Having managed dozens of renovations over the years, both commercial and residential, I can say that Joe Messineo is the best contractor I have ever hired, in any craft. No minor distinction. A 3rd generation master stone mason, Joe is an old school modern craftsman who produces quality builds. I engaged him to demolish and rebuild virtually all of the hardscape at my home---driveway, side walkways, French drain, brick patio inserts, and over 150 feet of retaining walls. A 7-week job, with more than a few moving parts. Joe’s team, Enrique and Claudio, worked like stunt men in a choreographed manner, carefully removing thousands of pounds of old concrete and cinder blocks, positioning rebar and framing the sites for cement. The worksite was clean and orderly at the end of each day. Then, 2 generations of Messineo---Joe, with a guest appearance by his father, built a complex series of retaining walls and brick inserts, that will clearly last decades longer than the original work from 1959. Every line dead-level, every elevation plumb, and every surface finished perfectly. The concrete team that completed the job with 2 truckloads of wet mix, delivered flawless slabs of new surface. Their overall level of craftsmanship and professionalism is not often to be seen these days, and it deserves recognition when it arrives.show more

"Our contact man at SC contractors was a man who liked to be known as "Chief". His most important characteristic was his total credibility - if he said he would do something then he did it - you could totally depend upon him. We had him completely demolish and rebuild a walled patio. Weeks afterwards we are still marvelling at all the little details which together make it so marvelous. For example, harsh rectangular outlines of flowerbeds were replaced by sweeping curves. Our old patio had become uneven and like an obstacle course. Chief and his men wielded numerous kinds of spirit levels and sighting devices so that the walls came out perfectly straight and smooth. Chief had the idea of making low walls around the flower beds and then filling them in with soil, so that our flower beds became raised flower beds. In the course of this they repaired old irrigation and put in new. One of Chief's best ideas was to put in surface drains in the patio floor which make it easy to wash down the patio. Another good idea was to put in steps to go from inside the patio to the lawn outside. It was very obvious that Chief was highly experienced at Patio design and we were benefiting from all his accumulated knowledge. "Over all it was a good experience. My old driveway was falling apart. Now it looks awesome. I was given a two week estimate but it was done in a week. There was a hick up, however; in all fairness most construction jobs have hick ups. Nevertheless, it was resolved. There was an issue with the total square footage but the company took care of it at no extra cost. Miki was very professional and a pleasure to do business with.
