"I contacted California Drains because my parent's home was completely backed up to the point where dirty water was coming out from the drains inside and outside their home. They promptly answered and booked me in the same day. They were able to contain the water from continuing to come out of the drains overnight and returned the next day first thing in the morning to get the problem fixed. Price was very reasonable, and the workers were very professional. Left everything clean and drains were completely cleared. It has been months since they came and there has not been an issue since. 10/10 will highly recommend to family and friends."

"Capped an old water connection in my laundry closet and closed it into the wall, as well as changed the connection box around the drain hose to make it more flush with the wall. Looked like the water connection was never there when they got done with it, and the connection box/drain hose looked great as well. Definitely recommend!"

"Very friendly, prompt service (later the same day). The guys got right to work turbo-jetting my drain and had a very cost effective solution to a broken clean out pipe. They were thorough and solved my problem. Price was the same as others for the same work - I would say reasonable."

"I have used Camarillo Rooter in my business and at my own home. Lonnie Jr & his team have done everything from hydro blast a sewer line, sewer lateral inspections & replace a sewer line to cleaning clogged drains, replacing water heaters and fixing leaky toilets. Lonnie Jr is honest, quick to respond and explains the situation. He is not an alarmist and provides options so you can decide what is best for your budget and situation. I have referred him with confidence and will continue to do so."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

If you have a sink stopper, it can feel more challenging to clean the drain without removing it, but here are a few simple steps:

  • Pour ½ cup baking soda into the drain using a funnel

  • Pour 1 ½ cups vinegar into the drain

  • Close the sink stopper for 15–20 minutes

  • Open the drain

  • Pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain (be cautious as boiling water can damage some types of pipes)

If the drain isn’t unclogged, repeat the process.

Plumbers use a variety of tools to help unclog the toughest of drain clogs, but the most common tools they use are drain snakes and augers. They try a plunger or drain snake to start, then move to heavy-duty augers, and finally try using a hydro jetter to blast away the clog with high-pressure water. Hiring a plumber to unclog a drain costs $125 to $300, largely depending on the extent and location of the clog and which of these methods is best for clearing it.

You can drain a hot tub very quickly by using a submersible pump rather than the hose-sized drain at the bottom exterior of the tub. A pump can move up to 30 gallons per minute, draining your hot tub in no time. Using the regular drain can take up to two hours.

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.

Bleach—even diluted bleach—is not always the safest option for cleaning your drains. With a high pH, bleach can be highly corrosive to many types of pipes, especially when used regularly. When mixed with household cleaners and organic waste, it can also create dangerous chemicals. Remember to use proper protective equipment and ventilation when dealing with bleach.
