"Very smooth process. Amir scheduled the site visit the week before and then followed up with a clear description of what could be built and what couldn’t be built on the property. Would definitely use again!"

"They helped us redo our front yard and backyard, which turned out better than we had hoped. The old driveway had cracks, so we replaced it with smooth concrete. On both sides, they added turf to keep it clean without all the upkeep. They also helped plan the space, so it flows better with the rest of the property. The whole project looks sharp and feels easy to manage. The team worked quickly and kept us updated the entire time. It's worth it."

"This years rain brought a very bad weed and brush problem at my property (@4,000sf of hillside planters). Weeds were 4 -5 feet high in some areas and almost every inch of my property was covered. The previous company i used was OK, but i did not really like the owner who seemed a little "off" and would just pull a number quickly out of his head before he even discussed the scope of work. I had been looking at landscape reviews for some time...all had some negative reviews along with positive. I finally decided to give C. Perez a try (least concerning negatives and a lot of positives). I reached out to Cipriano who was on time (actually early) for the consultation. He thoughtfully looked at the scope of work, and actually gave it some thought before blurting out a figure. We discussed the options of hand pulling vs. weed whacker and which locations would be best for each method. He gave me a price that I thought was fair. Cipriano texted me to confirm the night before, and the crew (i think there were four total) showed up on time and got to work immediately. They actually completed the work in less time than they had originally estimated, but they did not cut any corners. They did the job almost entirely by hand with only one small area using the whacker. They removed a few dead shrubs for me, clipped a few tree branches and cleaned up corners I had not pointed out to them...they even pulled some weeds between the driveway stones and on my deck. I could not believe how thorough they were and how neat and clean everything was left. I wish I had taken before and after photos but sadly I did not. I would absolutely use them again and recommend to anyone looking for a hardworking, sincere company owner that seems to genuinely want to do the best job he can for his clients."

"We couldn't have asked for a better experience! PGDG came out to give us a custom evaluation and rendering of the driveway gate, built, painted and installed the gate in a timely and efficient manner. They were even thoughtful enough to consider a wallstop on the side of our house to make sure the wind wouldn't carry the gate into the window! They had amazing service and built a beautiful product. We would definitely use them again!"

"I have used many contractors, across 30 years and four homes, and I have to say that B.R. Sheldon Concrete is the best of the best. I spoke with Barry, and gave him the scope of the work with estimated square footage of concrete. After he gave me a verbal estimate, he came to the house to measure the area to cement a very accurate estimate. And he did this at NO CHARGE. His estimate was not only the most reasonable and Barry so incredibly personable, but he is also licensed and bonded, and with his excellent reviews AND the fact he does NOT sub-contract the work out, this was a no brainer. BR Sheldon Concrete it is. Two days of prep and the third day to pour/pump the cement, Barrys team, which included Barry by the way, was always on time and did everything he said he would do. His attention to detail was amazing, from measuring to-the-inch where the lines in the driveway should be scored, to making sure my newly-set clothes line pole was perfectly straight, he was always there to make sure it was perfect. He had great ideas on the finish of the driveway which really customized my driveway so it was n ot just brushed pad of cement. My last minute change to add a second step in front of the front door to make a landing area was easily accommodated. Barry has the kind of ethics you want in a contractor, and I wish I could use him to do all the jobs around the house."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

New asphalt goes through two stages: drying and curing. Drying typically takes 24 to 72 hours, after which the surface is solid enough for light use like walking or careful driving. While you may be able to park on it after 72 hours, the surface is still soft and should be treated gently. Full curing is a much longer process, taking anywhere from 30 days to a full year for the asphalt to reach maximum strength. During this extended curing period, the asphalt is susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles, sharp objects, and high temperatures. Factors like weather, the specific asphalt mix, and application thickness all influence drying and curing times. For the most accurate timeline and to ensure the longevity of your new asphalt, it is always best to consult with your installation contractor for their specific recommendations.

Asphalt is not a type of concrete. While both are a common type of pavement, asphalt is composed of aggregates (like sand and gravel) and bitumen; concrete is a mixture of cement, aggregates, and water. Here are some of the key differences between asphalt and concrete driveways.

You should contact your driveway installer before winterizing a newly installed driveway. Winterizing it before the asphalt or concrete has fully cured can damage the driveway. But in many cases, you don't need to winterize a newly installed driveway anyway since it's likely freshly sealed and won't have much damage yet.

Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.

When hiring an asphalt paving contractor to install your driveway, ask as many questions up front as possible. Here are a few questions to ask a prospective driveway contractor:

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you have worker’s compensation?

  • Do you use subcontractors on your projects?

  • Do you clean up after the job is done?

  • Who is responsible for any damage to lawn or landscaping?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Do you give free estimates?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three references?

  • Can I see some of the work you’ve done?
