"We had a major two bathroom project that was wrapped around some SF plumbing incompetencies. Johnny and his family business team stuck through it with us. They are authentic old family skilled artisans and know tile, marble and that world inside and out. We had already done the quartz in our kitchen when we met - which I wish they could have also done given the difficulties we faced. Their advice would have better steered our selection and kitchen installation. Qura stuck with us through the project and I know if there is any issue ever they will come and stand behind their work. Thank you Johnny and Al!"

"Words can not express how grateful I am to Jose, the owner of Aztec Tile for going above and beyond to make certain that I had a great customer experience. I had called many tile installers as I needed to get the tile work in my kitchen done as soon as possible. Jose fit me into his busy schedule, gave a very fair and amazing price and the quality of his work was absolutely stunning and beautiful! It is very rare for me to want to spend the time and energy to write commending anyone, but I feel that Aztec Tile and Jose truly deserve to be recognized for their 5 Star Service!"

"Brian and his crew are the best tile setters in the bay area. Professional, helpful, on-time, and on-budget every time. He did a custom shower top-to-bottom for us, and worked with us every step of the way to make sure we got the exact design we wanted from the shower pan to the fixture placement to the tile pattern. He gives great advice on projects, and has a huge network of excellent referrals for everything from plumbing to cabinets to shower doors to electrical. This was a huge help to us with a recent kitchen remodel, in addition to the backsplash he did for the remodel. His tile work is top-notch - hands-down the best I've ever seen. His attention to detail is unmatched."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

A quality shower tiling project is a bathroom upgrade that can increase resale value. Bathroom remodels have the highest return on investments for any home update. Tiling a shower won’t offer the potential 70% ROI that a full bathroom remodel involving upgrading fixtures, installing storage, and a complete room retile will. However, you can expect an average return of 55% to 60% for this refresh.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.
