"The chimney sweep, Joel, did a terrific job, not only sweeping the chimney but cleaning the whole fireplace of ash that was left from previous fires. The chimney previously put a lot of smoke into the house. Now there is not a hint of smoke. I will definitely hire A1 Chimney Inc. again the next time the chimney needs a good sweep."

"They said they charged a certain amount for any repair, when it came down to it they also charged for the part. So that was over and above the repair fee. That was not in their information, that was not disclosed.

Other than that, they did a good job.

I would possibly use them again, as long as they disclose their real cost."

"Spectrum One is our choice over and over again for renovating our home, which was built in the 1960s. Dennis comes out and looks at the scope of the project and gets back to you in a timely manner with an incredibly detailed and professional proposal. He takes into account your vision for the home and offers suggestions for improving the project or explains how the team can make that vision come to life. The project managers who oversee the project from start to finish have been diligent, respectful and ensure that the work being done is of the highest standards. They are on-site every day with a whole team working to get the job done as beautifully and as quickly as possible. The attention to detail from the whole group is what I most appreciate. We have used them for whole-home flooring (removal, installation and baseboards), recessed lighting, countertops, backsplash and would trust them with any project. We recently completed a third project with Spectrum One that included widening doorways, redoing an outdated fireplace hearth, and remodeling two bathrooms. Everyone at Spectrum One is quick to respond, honest, creative, and fun to be around. We love them and highly recommend to anyone looking to do a renovation, repair, or build!"

"I hired Michael in late December to install my countertops. I had originally given him good ratings on Angies list because he was on time, efficient and reasonably priced. My issue now is with follow up. The piping to the sink started to leak and the caulking around the sink is starting to come apart. Now i understand that sometimes things like this are unavoidable and i do not blame Better Home Repair for it. But when i called to have them come out to take a look at it, i got no response. I left a number of messages on their voicemail, as well as one with a young lady, and got NO response. I wanted to hire them to do my laminate flooring, but i think i'll be looking else where."

"Wonderful job and met the surprise challenges that an older home presents after you open up the floors and walls and ceilings. showed up on time daily and finished the project at the time frame projected. Cleaned up after each day and protected the rest of the house. Reasonable and pleasant personality for Steve Caskey as well as his co-worker and sub-contractors. Tile work presented some difficulty due to uneven floor and the tile man made it perfect. Best remodel job I could have asked for. I get many compliments on the the looks of the final product."

Small jobs welcome

"Very prompt, professional, made some low-level suggestions to try before extending chimneys. If his suggestions don't work, will definately hire him (Paul and Sons). Vig wanted to extend the chimney with no guarantee that it would solve my problem, and to start the work and "work out a price later". I requested an estimate prior to him starting work and have not heard back from him so far."

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

A drawer falling out of place usually indicates there’s too much in it, so the best place to start is by emptying it of any non-essential items to check whether it was simply a weight issue. If that’s not the case, check whether the front panel or hardware is damaged, and replace parts as necessary. You may need to replace the drawer or the drawer slides if the issue persists.

Yes, you can fill rotten wood with expanding foam. You may prefer using an expanding foam treatment instead of wood filler since the latter can take a long time to dry. It may also provide an easier solution when you’re dealing with smaller gaps. If you use expanding foam, allow it to cure for about 24 hours before you sand and prime it.

Yes, most couches can be disassembled, especially those that were delivered flat-packed for assembly. To take a couch apart, you can typically detach components like the legs, arms, and backrest. The process often involves removing the cushions, unscrewing the legs, and separating sectional pieces or the seat frame. If you have the manufacturer's instructions, they will provide the clearest guide on which parts are designed to be removed.

If your couch is damaged, you are not out of options. You might try fixing it on your own, bring in a furniture repair specialist, or opt to get rid of it responsibly. Depending on its condition, you could donate, sell, recycle, or drop it off at a local scrap facility.

Whether it is worth it to ship your bedroom furniture depends on your priorities, but it can be hard to decide. You should ship your bedroom furniture if the pieces have sentimental or antique value and if it will make you happy to have them in your new home. But if your mattress or box spring is worn out (the average lifespan of a bed is seven to ten years), it's probably not worth the money or effort to ship if you’re moving somewhere where bedroom furniture is readily available.
