"Jose was at our residence right on time. Looked at the water heater needed to be replaced. Pointed out all the requirements needed to do the job place what he would do extra. Gave me the quote. Asked him a few questions, which he answered without any hesitation. Him and his assistant did the job the way they said they were going to do. The end result was great and was a job well done. I feel very satisfied and comfortable with those results. GREAT!!!!!!"

"I used the HomeAdvisor app for a water heater problem and received a call from Jaime within 30 minutes and had technician Jeff out within another hour. Excellent customer service from both, very reasonable rates and even was able to have parts replaced under warranty. Jeff was extremely friendly and professional. He offered to check any additional problems on the same call. Will have them come back."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

You should consider replacing your bathtub if the tub—or any potential refinishing—is older than about 20 years old. However, acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs have a shorter lifespan (about 10 to 15 years). You may decide to replace your bathtub sooner if there are stains or mold you can’t get rid of, no matter how much you clean it, or if you find leaks and cracks that could lead to costly water damage.

The best bathroom floor tiles are strong enough to withstand the weight of a clawfoot tub. However, professional tile installation is essential. If the tiles are uneven or improperly fixed, they may crack under the pressure. Be careful when installing the tub—if it drops or drags on the tiles, it could easily cause scratches or cracks.

You can put a structure under your bathtub for support. Many modern tubs come with a built-in support structure underneath. Almost any type of mortar or floor-leveling compound is acceptable for new bathtubs that don’t include a support structure.

You can also install spray foam under an existing bathtub to eliminate or reduce squeaking or sagging. However, spray foam isn’t rigid enough for primary tub support.

The water supply lines run underneath the bathtub. These two pipes deliver cold and hot water to the bathtub—the cold water comes from the main water supply, and the hot water comes from the water heater. The pipes are made from copper, cream-colored plastic CPVC, or red and blue PEX tubing.

A standard bathtub can be used for soaking, but they tend to be shallower (between 15 and 18 inches deep). A soaking tub is designed to be deep enough to totally submerge yourself in the water (about 20 and 24 inches deep). Additionally, most soaking tubs are freestanding, while regular bathtubs come in various styles with drop-in, surround, and wall-mounted options available.
