"We have used Service Champions on and off over the years, in a couple of different houses. A year ago they installed a new HVAC system and water heater in our home. The annual contract that came with the installation expires this month and I had decided not to renew it, because what can go wrong with a newer HVAC system, right? Today the smoke alarm at the top most point of our vaulted ceiling started beeping driving our dog to want out of the house. My wife refused to let her 86 year old husband climb our ladder to remove it. Even though our dilemma had nothing to do with the HVAC, Service Champions came to the rescue and within 4 hours. Needless to say I will be renewing my contract."

"It couldn't have been better. Ewald and his son did an outstanding job replacing a ceiling fan plus installing a down light. Cost was very reasonable. It's hard to find trades with integrity and they just don't come better than this firm. Not only that they are really nice people. I will definitely go to them in the future."

"In June of 2010 my house flooded due to a faulty toilet tank intake line.  Forever Wood Construction was there within 2 hours & begin the steps needed to start the repair of my home.  They helped me move all my belongings out of the way so they could remove the water damaged part of the walls & the damaged flooring.  They set up blowers & dehumidifiers throughout my house to dry it out so they could proceed to put it all back together.  They totally matched the texture on my walls & you can't tell that I've ever had a flood or had any portions of the walls redone!  They even fixed some long standing electrical issues for me.  Great company!  I definitely recommend this company to others."

"Gurzi and DeWolf Builders converted a horse shed into an office/living quarters on our property. They helped me with the design and details of the building. I had a rough idea of what I wanted, and Tom and Steve brought to being. What started out to be an unused run down shed became a sanctuary for me. Everytime I show friends my "Man Cave" they ask if they can live there.Gurzi and DeWolf Builders drafted a design based on my ideas, arranged for all the materials and permits necessary, and hired the necessary subcontractors to complete the project. They performed the demolition necessary for the job, laid the foundation and did the framing. Then they had power connected to the site, set up the water system and connected the building to our septic system. A full bathroom and kitchentte was installed, and a walk-in closet was built. Can lighting and all electrical was put in, including lighting and power to the attic. Insulation was installed in the ceilings and walls; a wall heater connected to propane was put in too. Double-paned windows went in providing lots of light, fresh air and great views. The siding finished the look outside, and textured interior walls and ceilings were done in the inside. A manufactured wood floor was laid giving the inside a nice finishing touch. The final result was a 650 square foot studio living quarters used for work and play. Tom and Steve followed up on all concerns, and ensured I was more than satisfied with the finished product. When we had our "house warming" party all of our guests raved about the results, and those who had seen the original shed couldn't believe the transistion. Thanks guys for a job well done."

"Purchased Big Deal for house painting. Did not hear from contractor so emailed and then left message on phone. Received call back about two weeks later and scheduled estimate. Estimator took my fan deck to get a color match, and I advised her we needed this done ASAP.

Another week went by, then another, left message to please provide estimate. no response. Contacted help desk. Advised help desk we wished to cancel this contractor for non response. Another week went by and received phone message from contractor, that they needed to schedule the power wash, still no mention of estimate! This made me uncomfortable as I would then be committed to continue with no idea what it would cost."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.

For a 12x12 room, a fan between 36" and 50" will work, as it falls in the range for spaces up to 144 square feet. These size fans provide adequate air circulation and ensure a comfortable environment without being overpowering. Even better, they come in a broad range of styles, offering aesthetics and functionality, making them suitable choices for maintaining an ideal room temperature and enhancing overall comfort.

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.
