"I had a window that was leaking and did not know who to go to for fixing this issue. I found Level Up Contracting through Angi's list. They came and surveyed the problem area. The problem lied behind the drywall and Al told me what work was needed to investigate the issue and repair it. He walked me through the process and quoted me a fair cost for the job. Throughout the repair work he provided updates and what materials he needed to completed the work. Al provided excellent customer service and was very pleasant to talk to. I am very satisfied with his work and craftmanship."

"Mark and his crew did an excellent job remodeling my bathroom. It looks absolutely beautiful. His crew also put in lighting in my kitchen and removed some cabinetry. The kitchen now looks more spacious. They also replaced the flooring in one of my bathroom downstairs. I was so pleased with the upstairs bathroom, I had Mark and his crew remodel my downstairs bathroom. My son and daughter-in-law were so impressed with the results, they wanted Mark to work on their home but they live outside his service area."

Small jobs welcome

"Dave was great. He came in and gave a very reasonable estimate for proposed work, with some options. We agreed to engage him, and when he got done with previously scheduled work, he came back and did the work. He received the wrong replacement hinges for pantry doors, so that got delayed, but he came and completed the job when the right hinges showed up."

"DM Building was great! Very professional and Danny, the owner gave a fair price for the amount of work that we needed for our bathroom. The crew did great professional work and knew what they were doing. Our bathroom turned out great and we are very happy with it. Highly recommend!"

"Things went very well.  There were a couple of misunderstandings but they worked with me to resolve them very quickly.  They helped with some budgeting which helped when trying to pick out cabinets and fixtures and surfaces.  There were some delays in getting shower tile, but they managed to finish the entire project in about 3 weeks.  The bathroom looks great.  The workers were all very polite and worked hard to keep the mess out of the rest of the house.  The cleaned up the worksite at the end of each work day.  I would recommend them highly.

"Shir’s team did a full gut-remodel of our kitchen and living room. Our entire floor looks remarkably transformed from an outdated design to a modern, cozy yet practical/functional space. In the kitchen - they installed extensive semi-custom cabinetry; new electrical, appliances and plumbing; and aesthetically fabricated countertops, backsplashes and waterfalls. In the living room - we got a fireplace makeover (with beautiful symmetrically placed tiles) as well as the entire flooring replaced with modern looking large-format porcelain tiles. The team was highly skilled, dedicated and hardworking. The team lead was an excellent problem solver with attention to detail. They executed our vision to perfection - delivering exceptional quality at a reasonable price. We are super happy with the results. The entire space is now ideal for entertaining and relaxation both. Our guests seem to want to mostly hang out on this particular remodeled floor, and that is the best testimonial !"

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

The difference between a pole barn and a stick-built barn is in the construction. Large poles in the ground provide support for pole barns. For stick-built barns, 2-by-4 or 2-by-6 lumber (known as sticks) create a frame around load-bearing beams. Stick-built construction is far more popular for residential homes. Pole barns are more cost-effective because they require fewer materials and less labor.

Complex plumbing is tricky and expensive in an off-the-ground dwelling like this. By considering options like composting toilets, rainwater collection, and gray-water sinks, you save money and help the environment.

It is recommended that you check with your local building official on barn building requirements and rules, since size restrictions vary greatly from region to region based on what your property is zoned for. Some cities limit barn construction depending on if your property is residential or commercial. The three main factors your building commission will evaluate are:

  • Height and lot coverage: How tall your barn is and how much of your total property it occupies

  • Setback: Distance between barn and property line

  • Easement: Legal right for another owner to access another’s property

There are several ways to save money and keep costs down when building an outdoor kitchen. Building on an existing patio can reduce the cost of a new foundation, especially if it's close to the house. You can also save on utility line installation by opting out of a sink and using a built-in propane or charcoal grill. If you have the skills, tackling parts of the project yourself—like building or finishing cabinets, installing fixtures, and constructing seating—can lead to significant savings. Reusing appliances you already have is another great way to cut costs. Finally, consider starting small with just the essential components and adding more features over time as your budget allows.

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.
