"I've had numerous individuals and companies do various jobs at our homes over the past 40 years and Keith is among the best I've ever had. We had a small drywall patch to be repaired and textured to be ready to paint. Keith laid out plastic and paper from the front door to the bedroom. Covered the bedroom floor and bookshelves with plastic. After securing the replacement piece of sheetrock and taping the seams, he put two layers of mud (two different types to assure the paint would not have an unnatural sheen) and then applied the texture material to an area that was perhaps 4-5 times the area of the patch to so it blended in with the existing textured ceiling. Top notch, professional job. Would hire again for drywall work and highly recommend him based on my experience."

"Michael Wilke understood how I wanted the finished bathroom to look. I have a mid-century house and wanted to redo this bathroom in authentic tile and in the same style. I ordered the wall tile from B&W in the exact colors that I wanted, and Michael provided a white floor tile to complement what I picked for the vanity top and shower. Michael and his assistant always showed up on time and were meticulous about using drop cloths and cleaning up at the end of the work day. Michael does a very professional job and it is clear that he knows his trade and has had years of training and practice. The finished bathroom is better than I had imagined and just beautiful. Michael and his assistant also installed drywall in various areas in my house where it had been removed to take out the old pipes. They did a great job with this as well and Michael put a lot of effort into getting the texture just right on the new drywall so that it would match the existing drywall. "Excellent work, excellent price. Very friendly, very satisfied. They do BOTH ceilings and walls (not all do that, very nice to have a one stop shop). We are remodeling our upstairs in advance of our first child, so it has to be good. And it was. We had A Better Choice Painting (ABC) come in and quote us for removing our popcorn ceiling, and refinishing it with knockdown and a coat of paint. We also had a quote for painting two of our upstairs bedroom, and the hallway, including three closets and a couple doors. Both quotes were significantly lower than some of the folks you will find on this site (who, to their credit were very professional). Not only were the quotes lower, but they listened to us instead of dictating. One ceiling specialist (also on the List) came in and told us the popcorn could not be removed, and the only solution was to put drywall up over it and cover it. This isn't what we wanted but he categorically stated that this was the only way. ABC quoted us for what we wanted and at a better price. ABC's ceiling guy did an excellent job with our aged and uneven ceiling. The finished product is even, modern and classy. Having that popcorn gone is great! The painting was equally good. All of the little cracks, uneven spots, and blemishes were sanded down, or caulked. Our house was so old that it was impossible to make the walls 100% smooth, but the prep work reduced these blemishes to the nearly imperceptible ripples that give an older home some character. The color came out well, the lines are smooth and the finished product is classy. The service was generally prompt and friendly. Dario was a great captain, communicative, positive, professional. I liked the whole team and would welcome them back. (and probably will, it is a big house) If I could complain about one thing it was the initial responsiveness. They visited my house and promised me a quote, and then it never came. To their credit, they were incredibly busy as they just launched an "Angie's Big Deal". After the final quote came in from the other contractors, I followed up with a call to ABC and learned that they had the wrong email address for me. So that explains that. Once the quote came out, it was a lot better than the competition. We moved forward and scheduling was easy. ABC called me each night and confirmed when they would return the next day. The entire process took 4 days spread out during a work work... each shift consisting of a four or so hours worked and then leaving to let that coat set, etc. Anyhow, they just left and we are very happy. Job well done."

You should do a little bit of sanding between adding coats of mud. Knock down any ridges or significantly imperfect areas through sanding, which should help you apply the next coat of mud smoothly.
